@ Iron

Thank you for that tally.

---

I'll update then if you guys are in agreement over the vote majorities.

And... well, I'll just note that yes, if you're going with same age Maid/Butler... well, let's just say your choice of education may factor in.

Well that and the majorities for magic currently are Lightning, Wind, and Water.

EARTH! EARTH! AND WATER!

Alchemy and healing. (Latter I'm not sure though.)

Note: Fire also leads to runes.

EDIT:

And why, a maid of the same age. Just why?!!!

All in due time... Smile

For now you'll just have to be content with our Lightning-magic, and perhaps see about getting a nice black, hooded robe, and a glowing sword.

Changed my vote to Fire/Wind/Earth

Fire gives runes and is a powerful attack element.
Wind has synergy with Fire and gives us massive speed boosts
Earth is a solid defense and gives us alchemy.

Good selection of support abilities, solid defense, and tons of attack.

We're a mage so we need to hit hard, hit fast, and kill everything.

[x] Fire
[x] Earth
[x] Wind

From your father you learned to make use of Wind magic... well, it was quite handy... oh and good for uh, getting away with your deeds! Yeah, very. Of course, that by itself wouldn't very much help you given your age at the time... but you compensated! Through careful and mangled attention on your mother, you learned to make use of Fire magic. See you can make your own meals! Well, sure it might not taste that good... but still, you can do it yourself... and help! Ha! Well ok, maybe that wasn't a really good idea in hindsight. But the view was worth it! And so well, given that... you tried to put yourself a good distance away in more record time, or at least be able to put out the fire as Wind magic wasn't filling enough of that for you. So you experimented, yes, a bit painful, somewhat messy, and quite a bit of headaches. But you managed to work up- with some attention to your father's idle use of it, Earth magic! With that, you've solved your issue of setting things on fire... to putting it out and slowing pursuit!

[x] Maid...
[x] Your Age.

To keep you out of trouble in sense- or simply clean up your mess, a girl your age was assigned as your personal maid. Of course, with the regularity of your antics... and her assigned duties combined with her own lessons... well, you eventually did come to ease up and try to take some responsibility for your actions. That and cleaning up your own messes, something that you learned to appreciate the work and effort she puts into managing everything. Somehow. You're really quite not sure how she manages it. Not that she'd ever tell you.

Maid Occupation:
[ ] Just a Maid.
[ ] Ninja Maid. (-20 Character Generation Points)
[ ] Mage Maid. (-10 Character Generation Points)
[ ] Bodyguard Maid. (-10 Character Generation Points)
[ ] ? (Write In. Variable Character Generation Point Cost)

[x] Privately educated by a Artil Academy**** graduate... under the employ of your parents. (-30 Character Generation Points; No Negative Variable Modifier)**

Your private teacher went by the assumed name of 'Kohan', though from what you've checked- and your parents as well, that's more or less his name as listed at Artil Academy. The reason of which he refuses to disclose, though from what you could pick up... isn't entirely deliberate. But within a span of a few weeks, the issue simply had nowhere left in your mind to stay, as you eagerly dove into your lessons head on, learning quite a few things and improving a number of others as well. For one thing you did learn, having a formal teacher to learn magic from certainly beat doing so yourself.

For one thing you learned you...
[ ] Didn't have an Affinity
[ ] You had an Affinity for... (-20 Character Generation Points)
---[ ] (One of) Fire/Earth

[ ] Water Magic (Note: Unobtainable later on if lacking Water Magic.)
[ ] Lightning Magic (Note: Requires EX Rank Wind to re-obtain if lacking Lightning Magic.)
[ ] Only lacked one of the six elements. (-30 Character Generation Points)

Pick 6: (Duplicate votes acceptable; Ignore Cap/max # if you have the corresponding Affinity)
[ ] Magic Theory (Current: D Rank; Can take twice max. Caps anything without Affinity at its Current Rank.)
[ ] (One of) Fire/Wind/Earth Magic (Can take each twice max. Caps at Magic Theory Rank.)
[ ] (One of) Lightning/Water Magic (Initial => Gain at D Rank, Initial pick counts as 2, ignore if corresponding Affinity is taken & cannot be take if lacking the corresponding Magic; Can take twice max. Caps at Magic Theory Rank.)
[ ] Ice (Requires Affinity or Water Magic at D Rank. Initial => Gain at D Rank, Initial pick counts as 2, ignore if corresponding Affinity is taken & cannot be take if lacking the corresponding Magic; Can take twice max. Caps at Magic Theory Rank.)
[ ] Healing (Requires D Rank Water & Earth Magic or Affinity. Initial => Gain at D Rank. Can take thrice max. Caps at Magic Theory Rank.)

[x]Has quite the many a enemies, both in and outside of Astameli, all of whom seem to carry their grudge or whatever over to you. Lucky you aren't ya? (+60 Character Generation Points)
[x] Given up quite a bit of wealth to favor the Commoners, though a bit too much, leaving you nearly nothing to inherit. (+30 Character Generation Points, Removes Negative Relations to Commoners)*

Your family's particular favoring of Commoners for one thing, didn't quite well mesh with the options of other nobles in Astameli, especially the ones in good relation with the Republic of Hemindel. Which, by extension is quite obvious that the Everard family doesn't get along with them either- and that, is putting it mildly. But that is a bit more tame in all consideration as you and your family are not shunned like other nobles by the Commoners, of whom the majority of Students in Astameli are of... or more tied towards. Of course, it doesn't mean your family is exactly well liked amongst them, but still, you'll take what you can as your parents didn't really leave you much other options.

Of course, your parents... deaths were a bit suspect. For one thing, you could rule out for sure that it was an inside job- at least the group responsible for ordering their deaths. Though given the lack of evidence left and bodies, it did for one, point to that at least it was carried out by a group within Karandel, but whom or why... that eludes you entirely. But the fact you were clearly not marked for death then and there was a bit off, as it wouldn't make sense if it was a person within Karandel ordering it. Which but leaves Hemindel and Hellion as the most likely candidates responsible for the act.

Fortunately, no attempts- to your knowledge, has been made on you thus far. But the rather suspect trail of dead bodies you see or notice from time to time, some of whom seem a bit... familiar, seems to point to otherwise. Though one day you... (Pick One minimum.)
[ ] Found your teacher dead and strung out amongst the fence... a public notice if you will. (+60 Character Generation Points, Lose Family Connections, Commoner Relations => Suspicious of you.)
[ ] Found the rest of your family's remaining servants whom stayed on to help you... dead. Except your Maid. Somehow. And then, the place burned down. What. (+40 Character Generation Points, Lose Family Assets.)
[ ] Picked up a half dead... (? Character Generation Points, Variable Cost subject to GM decision.)
---[ ] Write In (Animal/Bird... subject to GM approval.)
------ [ ] And nursed it back to health, adopting it as your pet in the process.
------ [ ] And gave it to your Maid as a pet, of which she nurses it back to health.

Maid:
[x] Ninja maid.

So we can have someone that can rake in the money as I know we are going to be spending most of our time training.

Element:
[x] Affinity for Runes
[x] Horrible with Ice and Lighten

Because this way if we want to get these elements later we can without having to lose any. Plus, Runes just sound like some mush fun to use.

Learned:
[x] Magic Theory x2
[x] Fire
[x] Earth
[x] Wind
[x] Runes

Just a nice balanced upgrade that builds upon what we already have.

Family:
[X] Found your teacher dead and strung out amongst the fence... a public notice if you will. (+60 Character Generation Points, Lose Family Connections, Commoner Relations => Suspicious of you.)

[X] Found the rest of your family's remaining servants whom stayed on to help you... dead. Except your Maid. Somehow. And then, the place burned down. What. (+40 Character Generation Points, Lose Family Assets.)

[x] Picked up a half dead wolf from a trader that no idea how to take care of the it while traveling by sea and was able to get it cheap because the trader want to unload it as soon as possible as he blamed the creature for all of his recent bad luck.
-Which we then nursed back to health and made it our familiar.

Because wolfs are awesome and having something that is smarter then it looks or can mess with things like karma/luck would be cool.

Well at this rate we are going to end up as adventurer.

Question, what would it cost to add "Childhood companion" as a maid option.

Basically a bonus to make it so she's ALWAYS been with us (except when she was training)

You don't give points costs here so I don't know what to spend on what. IMHO though we should go cheap on afinities and dump most of our points into SKILL.

We should take Water and Healing though.

[X] You had an Affinity for... (-20 Character Generation Points)
---[X] Runes (-40 Additional Character Generation Points)

[X] Ice Magic
[X] Lightning Magic

[2] Magic Theory (Current: D Rank; Can take twice max. Caps anything without Affinity at its Current Rank.)
[X] Earth Magic (Can take each twice max. Caps at Magic Theory Rank.)
[X] Fire Magic
[X] Wind Magic
[X] Runes

You had an affinity for Runes, rather unusual case or so you hear Kohan say. All the more so when considering you did possess innate ability to learn and use four of the six basic elements already, though he considered it unfornuate that you could not use Ice or Lightning magic presently, but your lessons in Runes included them anyways. None of which eluded your understanding, in fact, one could say it was... easy to learn it from him, far too easy, in fact, you suspect- which he confirmed, that Kohan didn't really have too much skill in Runes. Then again, it was normal for most to not bother with Runes or simply unable to progress far after achieving an above the norm skill in them, and those ones that achieved above the norm mostly were mainly in one or two elements only.

Of course, in comparison, your other lessons didn't progress as smoothly despite being less in work and all. But you put effort in behind them, with natural emphasis in Magic Theory as you did not have an affinity for any element, thus you would need to improve your understanding in order to be able to wield more magic and properly- thus actually able, to improve your skills without being limited due to not understanding. But as Kohan noted, you do not need to improve your element magics or knowledge of Magic Theory to use greater Runes... provided you took to learning them. Though of course, without proper and adequate supporting magics, in place of better element magic skills, you would be unable to make the most of it.

But he would do what he could to put in a word for you. After all, he owed your parents that much, ensuring you got a fitting education as to give you a proper shot at life was the least he could do. That did, of course, include covering the costs of it... to an extent, but he didn't consider it much an issue. Neither did your maid.

[X] Ninja Maid. (-20 Character Generation Points)
[X] Found the rest of your family's remaining servants whom stayed on to help you... dead. Except your Maid. Somehow. And then, the place burned down. What. (+40 Character Generation Points, Lose Family Assets.)
[X] Picked up a half dead Wolf
------ [X] And nursed it back to health, adopting it as your pet in the process.

It was but quite alarming at first. But with much coxing, you calmed down and slowly came to realization. Firstly, the dead present then there at the time wasn't just the remaining servants. No, a fair number of bodies there you didn't quite realize. Secondly, your maid- she, your parents, and Kohan all insisted you keep to generically referring to her and your servants- was at the time, wearing a freshly cleaned set of clothes, despite the fact you're quite sure she doesn't commit such waste unless... her clothes are thoroughly stained that a quick clean wouldn't be through or still leave the smell intact. Thirdly, you were removed from the building by Kohan quite swiftly without any notice at the time, but his actions and movements were the typical sort he did when he was teaching you in a flat, deadset manner that tolerated not questions or the like until afterwards.

It was easy to draw a conclusion upon the realization of the three details: Someone had decided to finish the job. But whom decided to do so, that you weren't sure of as there was no evidence left. Except that whoever ordered it wasn't the same as the one who ordered the deaths of your parents, no, this person for one thing was dead incompetent or at least much less competent. Though the damage was done, but the worst of it was probably the loss of the few remaining inheritance from your parents that you hadn't formally inherited yet but would have once you were older. That was mainly only an issue since you didn't actually get to see what those were. But it was already too late, and all the remaining family assets you had left... were gone due to this one time failure by your maid and Kohan to fully and properly deal with the assassins.

Off to the side, you noticed a half dead female wolf laying on the ground, nearly unconscious, its injuries seeming to be from slashing weapons, likely injured by accident. But for one thing, you were quite sure it wouldn't make it if you just let it be, so you took it with you- much to the protest of both Kohan and your maid. Not that it was a problem convincing them as they did cost you your inheritance and assets due to this one time failure. And so you took up temporary residence at Kohan's home, a rather bare and empty one, but decent. Your maid took the liberty to bandage up the wolf, a bit excessive by your tastes, but she assured you it would be enough for its own good, so you agreed. When the wolf woke up, it seemed rather very confused, quite very much so, until it noticed your maid where it then tried to escape. Only to fail in rather comical fashion as it seemed to have been bandaged much like those mummy or whatever. During that time, you made up your mind to adopt it, using the same point to silence any opposition towards it though they agreed a bit too readily. Kohan took you out to shop for a collar and leash for the wolf, but why Kohan took you to an unorthodox dealer instead of one of the more regular shops instead eluded you. Your arrival back went off without a problem as the wolf seemed quite terribly terrified of your maid, possibly trauma from its injuries you assume, though its expression from seeing the collar seemed to worsen entirely, maybe it had a bad experience with it before, but it didn't resist as you put on its collar. You did, of course, already have a name for it when you went and bought the collar.

The name was...

Making the best of the incident, you managed to get bits and pieces of information out of your maid. From what you pieced together, she was a assassin of the Far Eastern sort, a ninja- or more gender correct, kunoichi. She was apparently sent to protect you as part of a debt or so owed to someone in your family- one of your parent's parent's parent's... its complicated really. To put it mildly, someone in your family in the past was responsible for what lead to the debt, a fact you're rather grateful for. Though on the same note, you do realize that for one thing, your grandparents never had anyone after their lives, nor did any family member before them- or at least, on the level you and your parents have.

More importantly, you finally managed to get her name- Kuromi Mesei- under the condition that you never tell others her name or speak it in public. Furthermore, she was rather insistent that you call her by her family name, to keep things professional or so she claims. But you complied as she didn't seem to mind you giving her a western name that you could also address her in public by. Though it one thing really did bug you, that was... how is she as competent as she is... for her age?

Ninja Maid's Western name is...

Despite your want to leave the country for your own safety, both Mesei and Kohan were steadfastly opposed- for your own safety and best interest they claimed as you wouldn't be able to properly fend for yourself as is. And Kohan had promised your parents to make sure you did get a good and proper education so you could protect yourself at minimum. With your loss of assets, Kohan had willingly proposed to help pay for your education, to an extent of course as there is a limit to what he could afford. He had given you a rather small list of Magic Academies that you could attend of which would at least be a proper education or more, though the number that would allow Mesei to enroll as well to protect you were even fewer. The very same ones though, would also mean you would have to live in a dorm on campus- a good thing the two assure you as any attempts on your life would potentially drag in others of whom can very much end up becoming allies against the person wanting you dead.

And so you...

I say we call the maid Senka. It means Shadow in Serbian.

I think we should go into the Artil Academy. We have our pride. It's all we have left and we need the best education possible to survive.

Wolf's name
[x] Lucia

Lucia seemed to take great offense at the name, but you dismissed that possibility. You've never heard of a animal having issue with being named or names in particular. But she seems quite tame, or at least dead pale around Mesei who seems to be quite friendly to it. D'aw.

Ninja Maid's name:
[x] Senka Lusine

Mesei initially seems to have some issue with the name, mainly given per the spelling, but with some copious use of suggesting other names that she had more against and some explanation that it was just pure coincidence, she settled in agreement. She doesn't seem to hold much against you or your choice of the name though, so it seems to have been mostly a misunderstanding. On the other hand, you do figure she has something against someone with the name 'Sen'.

[x] Enrolled in Artil Academy through Kohan's sponsorship and word.

The enrollment goes quite smoothly, though the examination was ambit the only worry you had. But it wasn't as if you were slacking, you took effort and initiative to self study Runes, which given your Affinity, went quite smoothly if ambit longer than you think it would have taken if you had a proper teacher instead of doing it all on your own. Of course, Kohan and Mesei had helped out in getting things along with making sure the material was of the proper level so you wouldn't waste your time on things too much above your current abilities and learning range.

It went about as well as you didn't expect. In terms of overall examination score, yours was rather average, but that was mainly due to your Runes, which in terms of individual examination scores... fared quite well actually- for one your age and without a proper teacher. Yes, that was actually taken into account to your benefit.

Mesei on the other hand, did fairly decent in both overall and individual examination scores. Though the part that does stand out is simply the number of different magics... that's not even counting the fact you're quite sure the number was lower than the number she's actually capable of. Likewise for the exact extent.

In either case, over the past few days you've been more or less getting things in order which includes getting everything moved over to the dorms. This wouldn't be a bad thing in a sense if you weren't given a room... relatively far away from the male dorms and closer to the female dorms. To be fair though, it does keep the distance between it and the advanced Runes course quite close. The building itself was used more or less for students that qualified for entrance based off one field or another due to talent or- you suppose- affinity.

However, Mesei's room is... in the female dorms proper. So that'd be a bit of a problem you suppose. Though thankfully, there is not policy against pets, which you think is why Mesei isn't as annoyed as she would otherwise have been. Not that its any bit more reassuring, a wolf can only go so far if pressed... which contributes to a slight lack of understanding why Mesei insists you're underestimating Lucia. Oh and Lucia still seems offended whenever addressed as such, but you're sure she'll come to terms with her name.

From what you've heard from Kohn, Artil Academy first years generally don't get to choose much in their schedules and in cases like yours, very much so the same. Though that doesn't mean all the schedules for those meeting the same criteria in a certain magic are the same as there is some variation. But overall, you really have to make do with the limited variety of options which is even more limiting if one doesn't take things into their own hands.

The schedules are quite frankly mostly the same, but the only general modifications would be based off examination scores. In other words, classes for different levels of the same magic take place at the same time, thus for all you know, the person next to you is much better than you overall, but just happens to be bad in that one particular magic.

Which poses a slight problem. Your element magics scores were lower than Mesei by enough, or so Kohan confirms, so it'd be impossible for you two to be in the same classes for those. While you're sufficiently higher in Runes than Mesei. So the only possible course would be Magic Theory, which in a sense, is redundant. In other words, you'll have to figure something out to cover the rest of the classes for the more 'hands on' parts of the lessons and the like. Especially, on more rarer 'class trips' out to other places... which Kohan says is normally identifiable by a surge of work both in and out of class... of which the class you're going out with then is the one with the least work. For one thing, Mesei is quite uncomfortable about that fact, but at least you can take Lucia with you on those 'class trips'.

In any case, as it stands, classes begin tomorrow. In the meantime, you have quite some time to spare. Mesei for one though, is probably shadowing you from somewhere, which makes meeting others somewhat easier since you don't have to worry about her affecting general impressions of the other party.

What do you do for now?
[ ] Head to the Artil Academy Library.
[ ] Go check out the Advanced Runes course building.
[ ] Take Lucia out for a walk at the Artil Academy Park.
[ ] Head to the cafeteria get a snack or so. Something... not too expensive yeah....
[ ] Look for a part time job?
[ ] Go pick up your class schedule?
[ ] Something Else? (Write In)
