Huh, almost forgot about this site. Anywhere, here's my introduction to my Item Shop idea.

"Well, looks like I’m finally here. The trip with the caravan took a few days, but at least I’m here now. The town doesn’t look as bad as they made it sound. It looks pretty clean anyway. Although... I haven’t seen many beastfolk at all. You’d think they’d show up here, with the newly discovered dungeons and all. Maybe it has something to do with the bandit attack that took place a while back. Security’s been increased, so I don’t think it’ll happen again but...

Anyway, enough about the town. As for me, I’m an aspiring merchant! Yes, it’s not the most glamorous of jobs, but what can you say? It’s always been a dream of mine. Moving along, I’ve come to this frontier town to set up my new shop.

Now, to the local Merchants Guild!

(Sometime later...)

Phew! Looks like I managed to get my Merchants License. I suppose I didn’t actually need a license, but it does give me the backing and reputation of the Guild itself. As a new merchant, the Guild recommended that I specialize in one thing to start with. I...

...am going to be an Item Shop Owner and sell everything!

Now than, time to take a look at my new license. Huh, I look pretty good in this picture.

Next, I need to set up shop. Let’s see, take a left here, a right here, down this street... and here we are.

Hmm, a bit out of the way, but I guess it can't be helped.

Anyway, looks like I'll need to get the shop ready for next week."

Welcome to "An Item Shop's Tale". In this game, you the players will be in control of a shop in a fantasy setting. The above introduction is an example start based on several predetermined factors, and will most likely differ from the choices you all make during character creation.

Some of you will recognize the name of the thread as the one from the game Recettear, which this game is inspired by.

Unlike Recettear however, we can't afford to pay attention to every single sale, every single haggle.

In this game, you'll be able to sell items, hire adventurers, fight off rival stores, and more.

This thread is to gauge interest in this type of game.

Here's a quick list of some the aspects of this game.

Running an Item Shop
Buying and selling items
Hiring adventurers
Making new items
Taking out the competition
World Domination

Here's the list for people who aren't interested in the item shop.

Create your own characters and give them stuff to do each turn.
Make them stronger and upgrade their skills
Sell your services to shops and more
Sell stuff you don't need to the player run item shops
Buy stuff you want from player run items shops if you want to
Grind in dungeons

crossover quest maybe? take control of a character from a fantasy series and drop them in a Sci-fi setting (or the other way around); hell maybe even take a character that the writer messed up with and use the game to redeem them.

wait idea: take a pre-book 1 Eragon and drop him in star wars to go through the Jedi-Knight storyline in The old republic. then have him return to Inhertance cycle to throw everything off there.

Or how about something like Tsukune Aono of Rosario+Vampire having survived a lifetime of being in the warhammer world, then suddenly waking up right as the bus is dropping him off.

Bonus points he was a veteran of Vampire wars.

There's one that did something like that with Darksouls though so... maybe not that character.

Personally, I'd pass; I'm already fairly busy with other stuff. But I could easily see others having interest; the RP on Skype was fairly popular before it died down due to time-issues. PBP should work around that.
