hmm, thought that I'd replied already.

That said, once he sees it he is astonished at how un-horrible it is, even more so once you let him know how much you were actually involved in the engineering process (IE at all)

He lets slip that Melissa's design is nothing more than a body kit for the Banshee and the fact is he expects that a small run, no more than 10 max, will be converted and probably assigned to the capitol to placate the girl's... frankly he thinks its a bit ridiculous.
Well sometimes even minor changes can be a solid improvement... let's face it, the Banshee is unlikely to be left worse by a facelift.

Did I mention he's astonished? He means no offense, but he thinks you're wasted on the Davions and would do much better inheriting the Federation of Skye. You have a Lyran head on your shoulders.

Not that you're officially in the line for either at the moment, though there is a strong belief in most circles that should something happen to your father you will be named as his primary heir.

In general though, your concepts and NAIS's engineers have created an admittedly mostly unexceptional but still entirely workable design that he can see a number of entirely practical uses for...
Flashy designs are all very well, but something cheap and workable may have more effect in the long run. Not to mention be more marketable..

This would make it better protected, allow it to make use of specialty ammunition, and it opens up room for an LRM model....
Excellent point although I don't think there are many speciality ammunition types available... basically Infernos at this time. The LRM version is a good point though and more armour would certainly be desirable.

I shall also see if there are any Warrior H-7 helicopters in the Skye arsenals that I can investigate with a tape measure.

Zeitgeist wrote:Nicholas Davion, Early 3015, New Delos

Better to be prepared then normal. Who knows what one could find out on the field...

agreed.

While Nicholas is ecstatic about the praise, he's not sure whether he should feel good that he's better then pilots many years his senior at a age when he should just be learning to read, or be deeply worried about the state of the Federated Suns militia.

It's an honest compliment to your natural ability.

Sometimes he wonders if, with so much of the SLDF ready to follow him beyond settled space, if he could have saved more? Then again, if he could....he would have, right? Nich uncharistically shurgs, going back to wondering if someday the descedents of those soldiers who left really would come back to the inner sphere or if they were lost to the void.

Mother declines to comment.

Nicholas looks confused for a few moments, and then gives a heavy sigh as he looks to his bodyguards. "Ah man. People are always saying that....is everyone trying to keep secrets from me?"

"No," he replies, "Just language ill suited for young ears."

He knows, and he loves his uncle too.

With his help, he was going to be able to create a nation where people are safe, free, and happy. A place with strengths of arms, the wealth of kings, and a drive to learn, to improve.

One day, people will say the suns were going outshine even the hegemony of terra in it's heyday.

Hanse pours you a glass of freshly pressed juice of your favorate type and himself a small tout of brandy.

Real men Drink to an oath!

Nicholas doesn't want to sound like he's scared, but secretly he very relieved that these people are around to gaurd him.

Uncle knows best.

Unlike before, Nicholas tries his best to establish a connection with his bodyguards, confiding in them his unease about the rebellious Marik and one of his subordinates, a certain Vesar Kristofur. Anton seemed more paranoid then a Liao, and he didn't like the way that relations had been between Jaime and Anton after Anton tried to get Jaime to split up the dragoons, rightfully refusing, and how Jaime had stormed out of the mans office a few days later. Nicholas had never seen the usually calm, cool, collected man so angry. Sometimes, Nich says, he could barely hear strange comments about "insubordination" from Vesar, and he seemed to have some kind of predatory gaze whenever looking at one of the 'goons. Nicholas didn't think that Anton was the kind to take refusal gracefull and knew that the man was losing the civili war for the Free Worlds League. He seemed, proud, paranoid, trapped like a rat to Nicholas. And people like that always managed to do something stupid, which is why he ordered his guards to watch out for Anton and Vesar.

They seem to understand and take your assessment of the situation seriously. It might seem strange for a group of hardened soldiers to obey the commands of a nervous 6 year old, but you are to be their liege lord and right now their only duty is your safty. If you don't trust Anton Marik and this Vesar Kristofur, then Anton Marik and Vesar Kristofur are not to be trusted and as such they will put their full efforts behind ensuring your personal security.

They will also attempt to coordinate with the Dragoon's own security to ensure nothing untoward happens.

It was a relief for Nicholas to get back to the Wolf's Dragoons after he had almost been barred from returning by Hanse. It's not that he didn't like New Avalon, and he would miss his family, Morgan, and his engineering teacher from back home but it was nice to see his mom, the rest of the company, and his Sibkin. Not to mention the chance to see new worlds and get back into his old training routine. However, it seemed that a dark cloud hung over the good tidings.

Your mother was relieved too... she was about to go on leave to pay uncle a visits. She understands that he'd protective of you and he loves you... but you belong with your mother.

You think SHE likes to trust YOU to one of the houses? If she didn't know you were in the best of care and could afford to she'd be hiring a company of their own dragoons to escort you!

Having decompressed and adjusted to the news while on New Avalon, Nicholas did his best to make sure no one worried too much about him after his fathers death. After missing much of the training his Sibkin had because of having to leave for New Avalon, the young heir to the throne did his best to redouble his efforts to make up for last time. Who knows how much his sibkin may have surpassed him while he was busy learning how to say "Good Day" in German or what worlds were deemed unihabitible in the Amaris Coup. While he wasn't training with his Sibkin, putting particular effort towards improving his performance in the sims, or trying to keep up with his studies for when he returned to New Avalon, he was playing with the rest of his Sibkins (mostly in wargames organized by Nicholas himself) and regaling Mackenzie Wolf with tales of rail guns that smash through a ton of armor along with the other wonders of New Avalon, asking what sort of things he done and seen while Nich was away.

Mackenzie thinks that sounds AWESOME. REALLY awesome.

As he for closer to his bodyguards, Nicholas asked for there help in training to pilot a Assualt Mecha, knowing they were the one of the best heavy and assualt mecha pilots in the AFFS,

Done. They use different tactics than the Goons and it's good to have multiple ways of doing things.

Of course, something is always rotten in the state of Denmark. More and more he would hear from some of the 'Goons rather depressing news on the front of battle. Normally he would care much for how Anton Marik's revolution fared, but witht he Wolf Dragoons fighting for him Nicholas couldn't help but let the news worry him. Not to mention the ever straining relationship between the regiment and it's employer over Anton's half baked scheme of splitting apart the dragoons, liable to destroy the company. At times, he confided some of the same fears he confided in his bodyguard with Natasha or Jaime's brother Joshua, wondering how desperate Anton Marik really was.

Moral among the dependents is somewhat low.

Then it gets worse. While you're playing with Jamie's kids several armed men come up to you and demand you come with them. At gun point.

It's much to their credit as soldiers that they make it a whole 10 feet before they hit the ground, silenced by sniper fire and your rather bubbly Davion babysitter who slit two of their throats with a hidden knife...

You and the children are evacuated to safty but it seems while the dragoons instituted some defensive measures they were a day late and a dollar short and are under great pressure.

It seems Anton has taken Joshua hostage a long with a large number of the dependents and is threatening to kill them if the Goons don't swear fidelity.

On the bright side, the Heavy Guards have secured their mechbay (along with most of the Goon garrison mechs). Their shortage is in trained warriors, as the goons are cut off and under pressure if holding at all, for the most part, though it seems that ironically many members of their support crew actually are more than capable battlemech pilots...

They think they can make a break for the wilds if need be, but before they make a decision they're willing to at least consider any orders you have for them... though remember, their primary orders are to keep YOU Safe.

Of course Elias is very eager to learn from his older brother Hanse about politics and seeing through political BS to get at the truth.

Between your mother and Hanse you know this task very well... frankly your mother is the classic liao seductress when not playing her spy games... when she is, she's even worse.

Sadly enough, they are sometimes necessary. Of course I would make my effort be heavily biased towards gaining true friends rather then boot-licks, but they can't be avoided completely, otherwise it'll cause me trouble down the road if I offend too many of them.

You do have some friends though. While he's 5 years your elder for example, Ardan Sortek seems to think very well of you.

You're also a close friend of Daniel Allard, who like you is half-'cappie' and is the son of the former ambassador to the capallan confederation. He'd your age.

You're also friends with a number of the Dragoon dependents.

A mother bear that loves him dearly. Of course, like all parents she has plans for her son. Smile

Big plans, but nothing treasonous!

His parentage is unmistakable of course. Though some would like to deny him his heritage.

Yep. Your "uncle" Micheal is high on that list.

Elias throws himself into training with the enthusiasm of a ten year old. Despite the famous Davion Autocannon fetish stereotype, Elias leans towards energy weapons such as lasers or PPCs rather then projectiles, despite having to manage the higher heat load. He also leans towards using heavy or medium mechs, though he doesn't mind heavier (and well made) lights such as the Jenner.

Both brothers encourage you to something in the heavy-to-assault range. Better protection. As an officer you'll be less running about and more commanding the battle. There's a reason Ian pilots an Atlas and Hanse a Battlemaster. Both are well adapted for command.

When he isn't spending his time sitting in the mech simulators and his usual studies, Elias is deep in history books, especially books on the fall of the Star League and the 1st Succession War. After all, those that don't learn from history is doomed to repeat it.

Smart kid.

In general you tend to be well liked by your age mates and the fact you're a bastard doesn't weigh too heavily against you as you're still a Davion.

It's 3010, you're 10 years old.

Aiden Davion was a rather happy child, enjoying the loving attention of his family despite being the bastard child of the spare as far as inheritance went. His father put his cunning to work in preparing his son for the trials he would one day faces and did so in the form of games to make it fun. One notable occurrence was when Aiden was a toddler sitting on his fathers lap watching him play chess against Uncle Ian. Hanse was commenting to the child about how the king was the most important piece and to win you had to take the king which resulted in Aiden taking Hanse's king and trying to chew on it. Ian is said to have busted out laughing and claimed his first and only chess victory against Hanse thanks to his helpful little nephew, or as he called him his "partner in crime".

As he grew older, the child's Davion blood showed true in the ease with which he could make friends with others his age. Aiden was a curious child and took great joy in leading his little troop of Midget Mechwarriors to discover "hidden Star League treasure" weather it was on vast rooms of the Davion Palace on New Avalon or on the wide open country of his family's lands on Gillingham. It got to the point where his guards would even sometimes join in on the fun by hiding a new toy somewhere for the children to find and whispering about 'rumors of hidden lostech'. Both his mother and father approved of these little escapades for they saw it as useful experience in leading others and organizing efforts as he was destined to do being of Davion blood.

While Ian couldn't legitimize the child due to political reasons, he loved hte child dearly and was doing his best to spoil him rotten. Uncle Ian always brought the best toys(stuffed battlemechs) and had the best stories, full of fearless Davion MekKnights fighting evil Dragon Samurai or smelly Green Monsters. The Knights would fight the bad guys and always win, saving worlds and having great parties with hookers ice cream and booze cake. Obviously Aiden wanted to be a MechKnight like in Uncle Ian's stories so he could save people and everyone would throw him parties with ice cream and cake. When he was eight, Uncle Ian even let him ride in his Atlas, it was so big and awesome.

While Ian showed extreme aptitude for most subjects he was to study and practice from economics, to physics, and engineering design, he was utterly hopeless in the hands on practice of a technician. One time, Aiden managed to convince one of techs in the mech hanger to let him help out by fetching tools and doing minor things under the tech's supervision(watching over his shoulder), he somehow managed to completely wreck the left leg controls of a Valkyrie so bad that it took the tech a week to isolate the problem and fix it. Since then he's been banned from trying to 'fix' anything. While that was a sad note on his record, Aiden though he more than made up for it by managing to steal commandeer an Agro Mech when he was visiting his grandfather's lands on Gillingham and he even brought it back in (mostly) one piece from the joyride. That managed to ear him quite a bit of rep with the country kids on Gillingham and the palace kids on New Avalon since none of them had ever piloted a mech before.

While quite the wild child, his mother had firmly ingrained into Aiden a habit of always reading something new before bed. It started out as children's bedtime stories but evolved into the classics of literature and even some interesting recounts of historical event. Aiden is fluent in French, English, and Italian and has a habit of trying to read books in the language they were originally written instead of a translated copy. He says it doesn't 'feel' the same when he reads a translation, his tutors chalk it up to minor details and meaning lost during the translation process.

Edit: I was afraid I'd write too little for an opening post but now it looks like I might've wrote too much Embarassed

The Coyote... trickster. Sounds great!

Between your mother and Hanse you know this task very well... frankly your mother is the classic liao seductress when not playing her spy games... when she is, she's even worse.

Of course. Smile I hope to learn more and more and support my older brothers when I get older. Very Happy

Much like Ardan, Daniel is a great friend, and a fellow budding mechwarrior. Laughing

You're also friends with a number of the Dragoon dependents.

Elias makes sure to gain genuine friendship with as many of the Dragoon dependents as possible. Though he is admittedly curious about the origin of the Dragoons, being able to be friends with mercenaries who don't really care about what social rank you have is a relief to Elias.

Big plans, but nothing treasonous!

Heh, in any case, Elias has a bright and interesting future ahead of him. Laughing

Yep. Your "uncle" Micheal is high on that list.

Ah yes, that snake of a man.

Both brothers encourage you to something in the heavy-to-assault range. Better protection. As an officer you'll be less running about and more commanding the battle. There's a reason Ian pilots an Atlas and Hanse a Battlemaster. Both are well adapted for command.

Elias takes their advice to heart, working on heavier mechs. After some trial and error he decides to settle on the Battlemaster, which complements his bias towards energy weapons. Though there is trade off in speed, the armor and firepower increase is appreciated by Elias. Though... looking at the Battlemaster and how it looks as if the PPC was mounted in a separate gun like attachment, which of course is a illusion. But still, this gave Elias a idea. Can the mech carry a slab of armor in its other hand? Perhaps a plate of standard armor can be made with a handle in the back and maybe firing ports for the mech using it, and provide extra defense for the mech. Heck, you can provide more protection that way to the Centurion to offset its vulnerability to ammo explosions.

Elias goes to his brothers to pester them about his idea and seeing if the idea has merit. Laughing

Smart kid.

Of course all too often mankind ignores the lessons of the past. Thats a depressing thought, hell, one only had to look at the charts of the worlds which was inhabited before the 1st Succession War and compare it to modern charts and there would be scores of worlds missing, dead or abandoned. Which is all the more reason to learn from history. Elias broods for a time on this depressing topic. But you can't dwell in the past, you have to forge forward.

But enough of that, with his mechwarrior training going, Elias also decided to go into the basics of tactics, after all, he'll go into the AFFS sooner or later.

Anyways, while your parents relationship is a bit rocky, they both love you dearly, as does most of your family. You are the future of the federated suns, son. Never forget that.

It's 3009, you're 10 years old.

Like father, like mother, like... uncle, like... grandmother on his mother's side, Lance Davion had a preference for the military and er- combat, a fact made readily apparent much early on when he somehow set two shiny coins on fire, resulting in him getting carried off... right before it exploded- to much clapping by Lance. Well, hey! It's hard to fault a kid for liking shiny things that shoot and make EXPLOSIONS! Of course, that's something quickly disabused of to prevent fatal accidents..., but decidedly focused to the proper way.... A good, but terribly curious student he is, probably a bit too curious. Which is probably somewhat hell for the security posted on to keep him safe. This is already on top of their list of potential problems to deal with in keeping their charge safe from outside threats.

But that's what politics is for, disabusing of such silly behavior! But it really isn't one of Lance's strong points, after all, how politically wrong does someone have to be to somewhat favor parts of another Successor State's culture, or at least the military's part? Even more so when it happens to be the Draconis Combine. Though at least Lance has the mind to note and realize that it is flawed in sense and... that on paper its nice and all, but in practice... well, that's better left unsaid. Incompetent leadership sucks for those that actually do meet said standards... of course, likewise, it sucks as well when their subordinates are incompetent. It's not a point he really would bring up though, but is hopeful of, then again, realistically, he figures its an impossibility and says its so as much if its brought up. And in the case when its brought up... Lance considers conquering the Draconis Combine as a perfectly good course of action for fixing up the bloody mess that they cannot manage to fix. Bloody waste of good men and lives.

Of course, that goes to speak of his ambitions. Uniting the Successor states as one is but a fancy thought, but realistically... he'd prefer to manage to bring at least one of the others into the Federated Suns. Be it through force, diplomacy, or politics. Naturally, with the Federated Suns on top. Which means... he'd have to tough it up and bear with learning politics. Damn complicated thing!

Naturally, this results in a need to vent his frustration with it... which was when self defense lessons were arranged. But over time, Lance came to consider it a bit nonconstructive use of time, but still kept with it as it is helpful and if you're shot down... it helps. Then again, being on the wrong end of an explosion is a bad thing too. The first thing that came to mind as a constructive use was... tactics! Well, he would try to ask his Uncle... and members of the family for their experience as they would know better, being older and all. Wiser was it?

For one thing, Lance took a preference to more agile- or at least more maneuverable mechs, but still understood the reasoning why his father used an Atlas. Lighter mechs are more fragile and... when you're responsible for leading a nation... well, that's a really bad idea. Still, its depressing. He'd consider asking or seeing if something could be arranged, if only as a faint hope. After all, a child can dream right?

To a point, its not entirely rare for Lance to end up having to halfway mangle a mediation between his parents from time to time. Then again, he's just a child... and trying his best. This is ignoring the time he halfway accidentally knocked out the lights in the room... in his attempt to just simply turn it off in a hurry just to sleep off that one time instead of mediating things. Somehow, he broke the switch in the process in his attempt to hastily turn it off. Naturally, it was the last time he'd try to rush things... excessively. Being chewed out by both your parents because you inadvertently broke something more than just the lights in your room does that. On the other hand, the implausibility of a child doing that raises the question of sabotage....

Through and through, between being with family- one member or another- and his studies... the amount of time he had to interact with other children his age proper was... less. Not non-existant of course, just that he only ended up interacting with a few on any consistent basis. Though apparently, there is a bit of a disproportionate gender ratio to his... interactions. That and his schedule for meeting times has ended up being piled over a month in advance at one point- the worst instance of it. Then again, the usual is about a week in advance, though that's irregular in within itself. After all, learning Japanese as well alongside the usual par course languages... and spending time as much on self defense lessons, learning tactics, on top of his education to begin with is... a lot.

Over a span of about a year, a few of the ones he had interacted with where picked to be a usual group, with only one male in the group, to keep him company..., though more in technicality, it's to keep him out of trouble and from making trouble, while at the same time, helping cultivate and put his education to use on some level. This somehow ended up backfiring in more ways than one. Like that one, and last, time where they inadvertently set back maintenance for a day due to making off with the equipment... for a play exercise- one that Lance dragged his guards into as well. With much scolding and a clear point made not to do such a stunt again... well, it finally clamped down on his accidental spree.

On the other hand, the sheer ability and coincidence of his 'accident's do seem to raise some eyebrows amongst the family... and some worry given Lance's eagerness to come of age so he can start learning and piloting a battlemech. Then again, there is also some consideration that much of it was planned and that Lance is just too bored... which is half right. On one hand, they were planned... just that, he was expecting an entirely different result... or the timing was horribly off. Much scolding of his accomplices was had... not helped of course is the fact they range about his age to older... and a few of his guards. Mostly, this is not counting the single instances by other... participants.

Another cause for worry due part is Lance's attempts at trying to reconcile the benefits of a light mech's speed... with an assault mech's... everything. Though at least its presently gone nowhere except given him a crash course in the technical aspects of mechs and their design. And at least on one instance- several really- he's gone off to look at tanks for inspiration... only to suffer critical overload... twice. Though in the process, he did grudgingly develop some minor respect for tanks....

You're still holding the number three slot by effective default...

Ian while not childish in the least, does have a healthy sense of fun and is not the type to take himself overly seriously. He's quite pleased to play with you when he can manage the time.

Often those toys are something of an educational nature, designed to not only stimulate your habit (a good eye for lostech is a good thing) but prepare you for your future influence, as bastard or no, you are a Davion and as a Davion you have duties and responsibilities.

Not just stuffed, but REMOTE CONTROL too! Very Happy

Your father gives you rides too... and your mother for that matter, though she pilots a Thunderbolt and not a massive assault mech...

Secretly your uncle was impressed, though your father less so... your mother tanned your ass until you had a hard time walking and spent the night freaking out about how you almost got yourself killed!

Good talent... though your father is insisting you learn Chinese, Japanese, and German...

Edit: I was afraid I'd write too little for an opening post but now it looks like I might've wrote too much Embarassed

It's all good.

(OOC: Daniel isn't a half-cappie, his older brother is, but he isn't)

Much like Ardan, Daniel is a great friend, and a fellow budding mechwarrior. Laughing

Mix up, but unlike some he doesn't judge.

Elias makes sure to gain genuine friendship with as many of the Dragoon dependents as possible. Though he is admittedly curious about the origin of the Dragoons, being able to be friends with mercenaries who don't really care about what social rank you have is a relief to Elias.

Um, you know their origins.

But they're nice to you and kind weird.

Don't judge.

Heh, in any case, Elias has a bright and interesting future ahead of him. Laughing

Yes, she will be satisfied with you being nothing less than a Duke of great wealth and influence...

Ah yes, that snake of a man.

Your mother has outright stated that if he does anything to endanger you, his end will be slow, painful, and entirely accidental.
Hanse is accusing you of plagiarism.

Considering you seem to like energy weapons, how about an Awesome?

Elias goes to his brothers to pester them about his idea and seeing if the idea has merit. Laughing

The mod's not very realistic...

Both brothers agree.

But enough of that, with his mechwarrior training going, Elias also decided to go into the basics of tactics, after all, he'll go into the AFFS sooner or later.

You better! Very Happy

And you are permitted to begin training early.

ReinZero wrote:Like father, like mother, like... uncle, like... grandmother on his mother's side, Lance Davion had a preference for the military and er- combat, a fact made readily apparent much early on when he somehow set two shiny coins on fire, resulting in him getting carried off... right before it exploded- to much clapping by Lance.

You worry people sometimes... :p

Your father would like to think so too, but the combine is FAR too hard a target to even consider it.

"Keep the dream alive, son..."

Not realistic though.

Honestly he's seen as a bit of a hyperactive boy. You need to ground yourself a bit more, kiddo.

Fast and Big don't mix well at all.

His parents didn't chew him out beyond tell him to BE CAREFUL!

After all, learning Japanese as well alongside the usual par course languages... and spending time as much on self defense lessons, learning tactics, on top of his education to begin with is... a lot.

Also bites off a bit more than he can chew at times...

Honestly his parents are worried. They seem him a hyper and Reckless. He has a lot of growing up to do and they're considering lowering his workload to force him to focus.

Much scolding of his accomplices was had... not helped of course is the fact they range about his age to older... and a few of his guards. Mostly, this is not counting the single instances by other... participants.

Frankly, at this rate he's not going to be piloting any time soon.

Another cause for worry due part is Lance's attempts at trying to reconcile the benefits of a light mech's speed... with an assault mech's... everything. Though at least its presently gone nowhere except given him a crash course in the technical aspects of mechs and their design. Hey! A Battlemaster is a good mech! Razz

Considering you seem to like energy weapons, how about an Awesome?

An Awesome sounds great!

The mod's not very realistic...

It's not a mod perse, but rather a object that a humanoid mech with hand(s) can pick up and use to bolster its defenses and then discard when needed. A mech can hold/lift things in its hand right? So why not extra armor? Take a slab of armor, add a handle on it, and have a mech grab it and use it to shield itself from at least the opening enemy barrage, reducing or eliminating the damage that the mech's armor takes by allowing the damage to be soaked up by the disposable piece of equipment, and even better you can throw it away and pick up a new one if need be.

(OOC: Just think a mobile suit's shield from Gundam, not gaudy like those, but basically just a slab of armor. A mech can pick up things with their hands so why not armor plating?)

Both brothers agree.

Glad that we all agree on that. Smile

You better! Very Happy

And you are permitted to begin training early.

Yay! Mech training and tactics! For mech training Elias will of course learn from the best. And for tactics, he'll start simple. Laughing

Aiden will soon have to start finding some real treasure and not just for fun but for his House as well. To look for clues Aiden has started looking into records of worlds lost during the Amaris coup and the subsequent Succession Wars in hopes of finding some lostech.

Muahaha, all the kids will run in fear of the glorious remote control mechs. Though curiously all the mechs he got from Uncle Ian sported the same paint scheme. Aiden later learned it was the parade colors of the Davion Brigade of Guards with a patch of Uncle Ian's personal command, the 4th Davion Guards.
Wow, kid's got the best parents in the Inner Sphere. Mom's mech may not be as huge and stompy as Dad's or Uncle Ian's but its just as awesome, especially when she makes it dance.

*after some grumbling*
Fine! But if my head explodes, I'm blaming you. I guess I'll get started with German first.

See if I can't do some research on Gillingham while I'm looking at worlds to see what resources the world has. I'll try to look for potential business opportunities so that I can later try to convince Dad to let me start my own small business there as a learning exercise.

Initial thought - as mumbled while I take notes - is that the autocannon has got to go. I know I'm a Davion on daddy's side, but really? That may be a pop-gun but it's still too heavy for the frame...
So what would you like to put in its place?
I'm currently looking at a long range missile launcher. The Coventry StarFire from a Zeus would have about the same reach but that's probably too heavy as well. Not sure yet if reinforcing the structure would be worthwhile, or if using a smaller missile launcher and allowing a lighter frame would be better...

I meant ICly. It would be pretty out of character if Elias wasn't even one bit curious about their origins.

Right. Still they don't judge you.

Well, unless Elias screws up somewhere down the line or dies in combat, he'll be pretty set on that front. Smile

Hey! A Battlemaster is a good mech! Razz

An Awesome sounds great!

Guess what you find in the Mechbay on your next birthday?

Not practical outside of Solaris 7.

Yay! Mech training and tactics! For mech training Elias will of course learn from the best. And for tactics, he'll start simple. Laughing

Alrighty.

Though you have been getting tactical training...

And irony... the GAME Battletech exists in Battletech, but its a popular combat simulation game rather than a alternate universe stompy robot game.

Hopefully they'll let me get some simulator training in after they both both cool down a little bit. I'll try to get Uncle's and Grandma's help in convincing them if necessary.

You were already having a chance to play in the simulators. Were being the key word. You're grounded from them for 6 months.

I'll skip what years I can. My studies should be challenging, if I find something is too easy than I need to move on to more advanced materials to study.

Of course not...
One day I approach Ian to let him know that he's in danger of losing his position as favorite uncle. If he asks to who, I'll simply point at the Atlas toy he got me for my last birthday and say "Atlas is out to get you". In order for him to secure his position, I would advise letting me look at his battle roms and teaching me about mech tactics since Mom grounded me from the sims.
If he asks if I'm trying to bribe an/or blackmail him, I reply with "Depends, is it working?"

I'll bring up Halstead Station to both Hanse and Ian. Say I was looking through old records and there was a University there that was buried but there's probably tons of cool stuff from the Star League or Hegemony there.

I'll try to soak up as much of her talent and advise on mech piloting as I can. Operation Grand Theft Agro just goes to show I've got the talent just need to refine it.

*pout* They should be grounded, technically its their fault for making me so awesome.
Since I'm grounded from the mech simulators, I guess I'll spend extra time playing 'Battletech: Tactical Training and Simulation' to prepare for officer school. I'll also spend some more time going through my engineering books and looking at what tanks the Federated Suns produces to see if I can come up with something interesting.

But dad.. My head's not big enough to hold all those languages.

Fine! But if my head explodes, I'm blaming you. I guess I'll get started with German first.

I'll have to try and prank him one of these days with a ketchup packet or a tomato. As I'm studying and he walks into the room, I'll hold my head and groan about "too much knowledge." Then when he comes to check on me, Bam! ketchup/ squeezed tomato to the shirt. Hopefully either grandma or Uncle Ian is also there so I can hide behind them.

See if I can't do some research on Gillingham while I'm looking at worlds to see what resources the world has. I'll try to look for potential business opportunities so that I can later try to convince Dad to let me start my own small business there as a learning exercise.

Hahaha, if I open an Arby's they'll be able to stay in business just from selling to him when we go visit.

But no, I was thinking something more along the lines of a mining operation or an electronics factory. Whichever is more feasible with the availability of resources and trained/educated personnel.

Morgan Hasek-Davion should be about 5 years younger than me, have I met him yet? If/When he visits, I'll try to be an older brother figure letting him tag along when playing with my friends and even try teaching him some of the things I'm learning.

Elias shows a fair bit of a talent at tactics. Of course right now its simple stuff.

He of course keeps up his like of history. But recently he's been spending more and more time looking into the dead worlds of the Hegemony and other places where lostech may be located. After all, you can't break the current stalemate unless something game changing is found, perhaps a Hegemony database of some sort.

Lighten the frame by a ton, fit a larger engine and more armour, removing the nose gun entirely and instead of the 'split' SRM-4 between the 2 winglets, mount an LRM-5 on each. And it would be relatively straightforward to replace the LRMs with SRMs, although I'm not sold on it being a good tactical use of VTOLs - scouts and harriers, yes, close in assualt platforms probably not.

A Davion is YOU! - Page 3 Empty Re: A Davion is YOU!

Nicholas Davion, Early 3015, New Delos

'This is a thought.'
"This is talking."

Psyckosama wrote:
It's an honest compliment to your natural ability.

Good. Having potential in something is just one more motivation to improve, and if he's this good already he may be able to keep his promise.
Hanse pours you a glass of freshly pressed juice of your favorate type and himself a small tout of brandy.

Real men Drink to an oath!
quote]

A bright grin appeared on his face as Hanse implied Nicholas was a man. The six year old took and lifted it up in the air. " To a brighter future, and to the Federated Suns." He toasted, and then took a drink from his glass.

Uncle knows best.

Yeah, but sometimes Nicholas wished he wasn't right so often...like now.

Of course, Nicholas felt it would be nice if he was wrong more often too. He had little doubt in the abilities of his bodyguards, but he was still nervous. He hoped that it would be enough to see them through this ordeal.

He knows she worries about him, but Hanse is reasonable even if he's a little paranoid. It's not like he wasn't going to him see you.

Yep....can definitely never tell mom Hanse nearly didn't let him go...

Maybe someday he could travel back to new Avalon with him and see the stuff for himself.

Done. They use different tactics than the Goons and it's good to have multiple ways of doing things.

Yes. One should take the strengths of every style of combat they come across, and find all weaknesses. Only then can one aspire to defeat all foes.

They think they can make a break for the wilds if need be, but before they make a decision they're willing to at least consider any orders you have for them... though remember, their primary orders are to keep YOU Safe.
.

A deep, calming breath escaped Nicholas lungs as he assessed the situation, thoughts swirling through his head. 'All right, remember what dad used to tell you. A leader needs to be cool no matter what the duress. To do so was to inspire your people, to break was to fill them with panic. That's what I am right? A leader, my bodyguards leader listen to me. I can't let them know I'm nervous.' In his six years of life, this was the single most terrifying situation he had ever been in. However, Nicholas was a scion of the house of Davion, and that meant he had responsibility to the people around him.

Putting on his best impression of confidence and trying to put on a air of not being scared shitless, Nicholas made his way to the leader of his bodyguards, looking the man in the eye. The entirety of "Anton Marik is a man without honor. His actions today threaten innocent people, have betrayed those under his employ, and has commited a grievous slight against the Federated Suns by meaning to coerce one of her inhabitants through threat of arms." He thought it unbefitting to cite his status as heir to the throne, but it bared saying that through his actions Marik had attempted to harm there country. "The Heavy guards have my deepest gratitude for what you did here, and though it pains me to ask more from you, no one here is safe. Anton controls this world, and escaping will be no easy task."

With that in mind, at the age of six, Nicholas saw fit to give his first orders in a military situation. Using the one time code pad his Uncle should be contacted post-haste, though he doubted the mans ability to react anytime soon. Anyway to get in contact with Jaime wolf would be appreciated as well. However, at the moment Anton force's were spread out fighting the dragoons on planet, and after just being attacked they had the intiative. There are variety of the goons garrison mechs here on planet, all of impeccable quality, and with the support staff and remaining goons another company or two could be raised in short order. While the Davion Heavy Gaurds proper lay seige upon Anton's palace while the enemy is in disarray, the rest of the forces raised could throw his forces off, wreaking havoc raiding keep points like barracks or Armories, even helping the dragoons fend off Anton's men. Once the rebellions command has been taken out, and Anton hopefully captured along with Vesar to take hostage they could wait the ordeal out till his uncle or Jaime Wolf sends forces to releive and extract them.

He doesn't always have the time but he does give you some effort and sets you up with a good teacher.

I'll bring up Halstead Station to both Hanse and Ian. Say I was looking through old records and there was a University there that was buried but there's probably tons of cool stuff from the Star League or Hegemony there.

They send some people to check it out...

Three months later... well... uncle and daddy need to go on a trip.

I'll try to soak up as much of her talent and advise on mech piloting as I can. Operation Grand Theft Agro just goes to show I've got the talent just need to refine it.

Shows your a dumb kid...

Crying or Very sad Buuuut mom, I just wanted to be a Mechwarrior like you and dad *sniffle*
Hopefully they'll let me get some simulator training in after they both both cool down a little bit. I'll try to get Uncle's and Grandma's help in convincing them if necessary.

No.

*pout* They should be grounded, technically its their fault for making me so awesome.

"Would you like seven months?"

Well, what are you looking to do?

I'll have to try and prank him one of these days with a ketchup packet or a tomato. As I'm studying and he walks into the room, I'll hold my head and groan about "too much knowledge." Then when he comes to check on me, Bam! ketchup/ squeezed tomato to the shirt. Hopefully either grandma or Uncle Ian is also there so I can hide behind them.

Grounded. :p

Hahaha, if I open an Arby's they'll be able to stay in business just from selling to him when we go visit.

But no, I was thinking something more along the lines of a mining operation or an electronics factory. Whichever is more feasible with the availability of resources and trained/educated personnel.

An electronics factory might be managable.

Morgan Hasek-Davion should be about 5 years younger than me, have I met him yet? If/When he visits, I'll try to be an older brother figure letting him tag along when playing with my friends and even try teaching him some of the things I'm learning.

Yeah. He's a sweet kid, but a kid... always follows you around.

Guess what you find in the Mechbay on your next birthday?

Yay! And when I get old enough to actually pilot the thing I'll be doing my best to become an expert at using the Awesome! Laughing

Elias shows a fair bit of a talent at tactics. Of course right now its simple stuff.

Simple by ADULT standards.

Kid, you're a freak. Wink

He of course keeps up his like of history. But recently he's been spending more and more time looking into the dead worlds of the Hegemony and other places where lostech may be located. After all, you can't break the current stalemate unless something game changing is found, perhaps a Hegemony database of some sort.

Balrog? Hmm. I'm guessing it will have a flamer... probably not a whip though.

A couple months later you see a test of the prototype.

It has a black demonic looking body kit, with actual LED pannels designed to make it look like its burning from within, its heat sinks are in back mounted and designed to look like wings, it can jump, breaths fire, has 3 Medium lasers on each wrist, a PPC in the old PPC/AC5 mounts, and... an... unfortinatly mounted rear flamer.

Yes, it farts fire.

All in all its a really weird mech... but it tests well... she gloats its going itno limited production.

Defiance did well.

As for your heli... it'll take some work to cut a ton off the structure. These things are complicated machines!

A bright grin appeared on his face as Hanse implied Nicholas was a man. The six year old took and lifted it up in the air. " To a brighter future, and to the Federated Suns." He toasted, and then took a drink from his glass.
Cheers!

Yeah, but sometimes Nicholas wished he wasn't right so often...like now.

It isn't easy being green... :p

Of course, Nicholas felt it would be nice if he was wrong more often too. He had little doubt in the abilities of his bodyguards, but he was still nervous. He hoped that it would be enough to see them through this ordeal.

Don't worry.

Yep....can definitely never tell mom Hanse nearly didn't let him go...

Never. Wink

Maybe someday he could travel back to new Avalon with him and see the stuff for himself.

He'd love to some day...

Yes. One should take the strengths of every style of combat they come across, and find all weaknesses. Only then can one aspire to defeat all foes.

Yep

Oh absolutely. While I can copy the frame in general, the specifics will require going over essentially every component, looking at where to make alterations, what has to be replaced and what with. Computer simulation equipment would help (deploy puppy-dog eyes on mother).

I'll keep exploring computer sims for strategy and tactics - I'm sure I can get access to the Lyran equivalents of those I 'play' with on New Avalon, giving me a contrast. This time I'm particular interested in how Lyran battle groups above regimental level operate and also in the effectiveness of militia forces in the defense of a world. For the latter I'd imagine that I need to be checking historical records - both of defense against FWLM and DCMS invasions and against pirate raiding.

I'd imagine that I'm too small to actually try out piloting a simulator for a Mech, an ASF or even a tank - ten (going on eleven) isn't all that large.

One other thing to look into: the possibilities of producing small armed satellites to engage dropships and aerospace fighters. I'd imagine the operating costs of manned space stations are quite high, but small and expendable satellites might be easier - can I find any history of remote-controlled orbital defence weapons of this nature? If they were cheap enough then scattering a few dozen in orbit over outlying worlds might deter pirate raiding considerably.

I'll exploit this for everything its worth. Have I advanced far enough to join any college courses yet? If so how long did it take me to disabuse my fellow students of the notion that I don't deserve to be there and was only being humored because o my family?

While I enjoy spending time with him, I can understand that he's busy what with running an interstellar nation and all. I'll try to soak up as much knowledge as I can and always ask questions about why he acted a certain way in certain combat situations so that I can be prepared.

I'll bring up Halstead Station to both Hanse and Ian. Say I was looking through old records and there was a University there that was buried but there's probably tons of cool stuff from the Star League or Hegemony there.

I'll ask if I can come too and after being told in no uncertain terms 'No', I'll simply hug them both before they leave and tell them to come back safe. I'll also try to tell/convince them to both bring along their personal commands (3rd and 4th Davion Guards) as Kurita might have been alerted of there being something of interest on Halstead Station.

I'll try to soak up as much of her talent and advise on mech piloting as I can. Operation Grand Theft Agro just goes to show I've got the talent just need to refine it.

No... Six months is more than enough. Just can't win against these two when they put their foot down Mad
How about some survival and infantry weapons training since I might not always be protected inside several tons of the deadliest machines known to man.

Since I'm grounded from the mech simulators, I guess I'll spend extra time playing 'Battletech: Tactical Training and Simulation' to prepare for officer school. It's 5 tons lighter than the Vedette, similar price, with a better main gun, and better armor. The only downside is that its a little slower. Aww, cmon Dad please don't ground me. You should be proud, how many people can say their son got the drop on Hanse 'The Fox' Davion.

But no, I was thinking something more along the lines of a mining operation or an electronics factory. Whichever is more feasible with the availability of resources and trained/educated personnel.

Excellent, I'll put together a business plan with the help of some of my tutors and see if we can't get the factory/company up and running soon.

Awesome, lets see if I can't teach him how to play 'Battletech Tactical Simulator'. Whenever we play/train in teams, I'll try to arrange for Morgan to be on my team so we can coordinate and help each other. Hopefully he'll like the tales of 'MechKnights fighting Evil Dragon Samurai and Green Monsters' that Uncle Ian used to tell me as I'll be recounting all of those to him. I'll bring him along to watch Battle ROMs too, hopefully his parents won't object to the graphic violence.

Also, have I had much contact with the Sandoval children? James, David, Talbot, and Jessica. James is six years my elder, thus sixteen right now and enrolls in the Battle Academy of Robinson this year where as the other kids I'm not sure of their exact ages but since their mother died in 3001 they are either my age or older.

I'll exploit this for everything its worth. Have I advanced far enough to join any college courses yet? If so how long did it take me to disabuse my fellow students of the notion that I don't deserve to be there and was only being humored because o my family?

Yes you are. In fact they need to wait to let you into NAMA.

You're gotten a tutor

While I enjoy spending time with him, I can understand that he's busy what with running an interstellar nation and all. I'll try to soak up as much knowledge as I can and always ask questions about why he acted a certain way in certain combat situations so that I can be prepared.

He always answers and takes to quizzing you by giving you a situation and demanding answers.

No... Six months is more than enough. Just can't win against these two when they put their foot down Mad
How about some survival and infantry weapons training since I might not always be protected inside several tons of the deadliest machines known to man.

You'll have to ask later on but they could be convinced.

Something like this:
It's 5 tons lighter than the Vedette, similar price, with a better main gun, and better armor. The only downside is that its a little slower. It should prove to be a godsend to militia units as they can buy several and it can ruin a pirates day. Hell it might even prove to be fairly useful to some line units as well.

Seems a little light for a "slow" big gunned tank.

A Davion is YOU! - Page 3 Vader

Aww, cmon Dad please don't ground me. You should be proud, how many people can say their son got the drop on Hanse 'The Fox' Davion.

Only for a weekend, and in this case its a traditional "no fun" punishment.

In fact there's a new opera house in Avalon City and the Humanities Minister's been bugging Ian to attend for months as it was built in his name... Twisted Evil

The youngest davion gettin' some culture might be very photogenic...

Excellent, I'll put together a business plan with the help of some of my tutors and see if we can't get the factory/company up and running soon.

This'll be entertaining.

It's a bit beyond him... and they need to pick and choose the roms carefully.

I'll take it for the encouragement it is and work even harder. Grrrr, my age and general midget-ness in comparison to fully grown adults is getting in the way again. Adults get to have all the fun.

I'll answer as quickly and clearly as possible. Ian likely sets a fast pace to keep me on my toes and simulate having to make snap decisions, I'll try my hardest to keep up.

I'll try again when Dad and Uncle Ian come back from their Indiana Jones Adventure on Halstead Station.

Something like this:

I would hardly call it 'slow', more 'average'. In comparison to the much heavier and significantly more expensive Bulldog, the Gaul sports a better main gun and better armor but is lacking in the secondary armaments department. It's meant to operate in packs, not by itself and be a cheap and effective militia tank, hitting above its paygrade but generally not part of front line formations. However, if they want I'll also work up a design meant for our front line formations to get their opinion on.

For a Main Battle Tank, I give them the Squire:

I'll let the generals/engineers decide which would be best/more plausible. But again, for the price of one of these, a militia can afford 4 Gauls. So, in the opinion of a 10 year old: Squires for the RCTs and Gauls for the Militia.

Aww, cmon Dad please don't ground me. You should be proud, how many people can say their son got the drop on Hanse 'The Fox' Davion.

Well, I'm grounded so no 'fun' this weekend. I'll take one for the team and accompany Uncle Ian to his opera show. Spending that time with his favorite nephew should make it less painful for him.

Excellent, I'll put together a business plan with the help of some of my tutors and see if we can't get the factory/company up and running soon.

This'll be entertaining.

After we've put together the business plan, picked out a site for the factory and decided what to produce. I'm leaning towards data pads for both commercial and military use. Something sleek an classy for business and personal use and something bulky and sturdy for military use. After my team and I have put everything together, I'll present it to Dad and hopefully get the go ahead to start.

I'll also ask him for advice on if he thinks we should hire some mercenaries to garrison it since its fairly close to the Tortuga pirates or if he thinks the militia will be enough.

Awesome, lets see if I can't teach him how to play 'Battletech Tactical Simulator'. Whenever we play/train in teams, I'll try to arrange for Morgan to be on my team so we can coordinate and help each other. Understandable.

Also, have I had much contact with the Sandoval children? James, David, Talbot, and Jessica. I'll invite them to the games I play with the other palace kids such as lostech hunting.
I'll also challenge David and Talbot to matches of 'Battletech Tactical Simulator' to see how I do in comparison to them since they're slightly older and also of noble birth so they got the same training I got.

As for Jessica, playing house is sooo booring. No wonder Dad and Uncle Ian are always out fighting Cappies and Snakes. Nope, don't want to play anymore though she's welcome to join the lostech hunting expeditions and we can study together.

Melissa Steiner is born this year as well. If I hear about it in court, I'll see about sending her a toy, maybe a stuffed remote controlled mech. What? I'm a kid, I don't know any better and since I liked em she will too... as a baby... that was just born. Maybe mom will have a better idea.
