Another place another time, a single difference does not make great changes. But a many a differences... then what should be, would no longer come to be. For better, for worse, that is simply how the sand of time shifts and changes. Kingdoms rise, Empires form, but that was in times a far ago. Now there is only but few, while... much has been a laid a waste. How, why... that is something of which has been lost, yet shouldn't be lost. It is but reflected by that of which are lands now unclaimed, lands that had once been claimed by great and prosperous empires. Yet... lay abandoned now. A number of warlords roam the forfeited lands, yet in the wake of absence of higher powers, lesser kingdoms come to be. But that is just a fragile existence...

Elemental Mechanics Notes

Basic Human Units: These are the simple, bread and butter units drawn from Humans, specialization is normally needed in order to maintain anything respectable in terms of combat capability or role functionality. Unlike Advanced Units and Non-Humans, they require training up after recruiting in order to improve their dice, though some ways may be possible to shorten the time needed. Their Default Training Times is here.

Advanced Units: Unlike Basic Units, they are far better in their baseline capabilities to qualify even the lowest rating. However, this makes them also more difficult to come by and thus limited in number. Due to their nature and differences, with some exception, they usually cannot be trained up normally like Basic Units, though they may specialize into different variants and the like. Their training is normally carried out on their own, though it may be possible to assist in that regard. Their rankings are only through their considered equivalence to Basic Units. As a result, they are usually stronger than a single same Rank Basic Unit, most evident through their Tier difference.

Your parents were technically of nobility in the past. But with the departure of many of the kingdoms and empires, they were one of the ones left without a lord... and to fend for themselves, a cruel fate perhaps, unbefitting for a loyal family with several generations of service to the throne. Over time, such feelings and attachment turned... otherwise, particularly as dealings and protecting the land they had became increasingly difficult. Eventually, they were driven from their lands with only but a few loyal servants under them remaining.

But eventually, they turned to less than noble means for survival- effectively, in sense, becoming what they had fended off in the past: bandits. Or so it was for about several years, as they gathered some of those whom were in like state. Eventually, enough to form a village of their own. Then, you were born.

Interestingly enough, around the time you were to be born, there had been meetings and plannings to deal with a probable threat of a member of royalty belonging to one of the kingdoms formerly present beginning to unite former holdings. That was unacceptable, waltzing back in and trying to lay claim to everything? After all their suffering and hardships? And so they plotted and made their move shortly after you were born. A mere two weeks later.

Initially, it seemed it would be a near suicidal operation, but that was quickly rectified by a startlingly simple fact, exposed by the advance group's storming of the royalty's place of residence. She for one, was only holding the forces together through... mutual attempts at using one another- though there was really little for the groups to lose at that point: only two major groups remained, having swallowed up the rest. One being significantly smaller and composed strictly of those loyal to her... still, and the others, seeking to use her as their puppet leader- and for claiming legitimacy later.

That, for one thing, contributed to their lack of pursuit and attempt at recovering the royal, a factor furthered by the presence of... a certain shady individual whom they had 'contracted' for later purpose of ensuring their legitimacy once the unification had gone through proper. But that still left the loyalists, whom pursued and engaged, leading to relatively moderate losses despite the more even odds. The only factor that prevented causalities from mounting was the re-negotiation of the contract that the individual was to be working, instead, shifting that....

As the years past, and time moves on, a number of small nations form, a few warlords raise as well. But all in all, there is no major power present in the vicinity. Of note is the fact of which one could say that the unified groups had but a falling out, but that is what the Hellion Colition appears to represent. It is, however, the strongest force in the local region, but its internal bickering and suspicion between its members leaves it little more than a deterrent against the larger powers.

Fire is useful, but Runes is a very good thing for empire building. Slap runes on stuff and send them out with warbands, Psycho. Imagine having explosion tags, or mind control tags.

Enchant is used to create temporary enchantments, which is also more cost efficient than doing it directly. It's also the lead into Enhance, which is used to strengthen something.

Reinforcement is exactly what it says on the tin, though, only Aether provides maximum effect... but without elemental boosts and effects. It is better than Enhance for the same task, but they both stack. Reinforcement is applied after Enhance.

Alteration molds/alters/adds properties to what it's being applied to. This does potentially affect what it is applied to negatively as well though.

Potions well... can be used to make quite a variety of useful things. It does need Aether however to be useable.

Talismans are more or less one-use and forget stuff. Needs paper to inscribe on and all though. There seems to be a better Far Eastern sort....

Invocation... well, helps boost power/etc. of magic slightly/somewhat, but generally considered redundant at higher ranks/etc. of other magics.

Contracts is the sort of 'binding agreement' sort of magic. But that requires Aether to learn and use. It isn't that great towards those stronger than your ability in making contracts though, and the other party also has to knowingly agree to it.

Curses is the 'afflict negative impairment', bad luck, voodoo doll stuff... etc. All of which have costs to maintain the effect on the victim. And require a treasured/close item to the victim to work. Also requires Aether to learn and use. (Not available presently.)

Exorcism is basically mainly against stuff like monsters, creatures, and other such things, or supposed 'foul magic' or whichever. Can technically counter curses. It isn't exactly mainstream taught though. (Not available due choices failing to meet requirements.)

Hm... name-wise, I'm in favor of either

[x] Askellad (roughly; "Ash Child/Boy"
or
[x] Magnus Kilmaster/meister

Don't really understand the magic-system so I'll leave that to others, though I agree with putting all skillpoins into a single weapon. Might be a good idea to look into learning one or two other combat-skills, though, for some flexibility.

In regards to attributes; does putting 3 points into something actually work? As I understand the improvement is;

C -> B -> A -> S -> EX -> L

So, 2 points should put an attribute at "A", and it'd take 4 in total to increase it to "S".

Hmm. I say we put a point into Contract magic. Getting more skilled at that will be quite handy in the future. Being able to force people into keeping deals that we rig in our favor is very handy.

You don't need to be able to bind everyone for it to be handy. Contract someone weak. You now have a spy/suicide agent who cannot betray or disobey you. Can you think of a use for such people? I can. Easily. We can have native agents in every town, every city, every nation. They don't need to be loyal to us. We just bind them with a contract one day. Tada. They now work for us to betray their homes.

I'm suggesting we spend one point on it so we can practice it. Plus if we do ever get it to EX, we get a policy of capturing and then coercing them into signing a slavery contract with every enemy ever.
