Your blades flash with fire.  The elf stares for a moment at you but shakes her head and continues with her work.

Likely was checking if I was using my own magic to do that, but since I don't have innate magic of my own, moot point.

You hit the beast men like a landslide.  Beastmen and parts of beastmen go flying in all directions, often while set on fire.  You run into the occasional defender who stares at this avatar of fiery destruction but none try to talk with you.  Eventually the beastmen can no longer bear this sort of attack and break and run.  Unfortunately for them, they are all grabed by vines and branches that rise from the forest floor, quickly catching them and dispatching with with prejudice.

With the fight over, I survey our handy work with a grim satisfaction. The beastmen were dead, the village was safe, for now. Until the next danger, the villagers could pick up what's left of their lives. Perhaps, to flee for safety. It was clear these woods were no longer safe for them.

The villagers stare at what they saw and when your blades snuff out and the elf emerges from the forest one woodsman with an ax and knife in hand manages to sputter out.  “Who are you?”

I turn to face the villagers, sheathing my weapons, and introduce myself. "I am Marcus Raynor, a... wanderer, you could say, I and my traveling companion here, came across your village and decided to intervene when the beastmen attacked." My expression turned grim. "A previous village we saw had been sacked by the beastmen, we had no intention of allowing those foul beasts to do so again."

She stares for a moment, then with a fury you’ve never seen from her, she start slashing at you with wild, abandon, while the blade nicks you you’re body continues to surprise you by preventing any of the strokes from biting too deep. When she can no longer lift her blade, you’re covered in dozens of small nicks that bleed freely. She finally collapses and weeps, “Why friend? Why couldn’t I be more? Am I not good enough? Am I not strong enough? Am I not fair enough? Why? Why? Why?”
Seeing her spent, her rage gone, her venom drained. I stand up and walk over here and simply hug her. "Renee, it's not because there was something wrong with you or that you were not fair enough. It's simply because, my heart lays here in the north and that I feel drawn to it and it's people. Though for that, I'm sorry for hurting you. But also know even if I can't be what you want, know that I'll still be here for you if you every need it."

An after that I just hold her until her tears are gone and she has the strength once more be in control once again. Then once that time comes I let her go, though now I notice all the blood on both her and myself. "Well it looks like we might need a new change of clothes, as it seems I have ruined the ones we got right now." I say with a laugh at it all, as after getting rid of all the bad air has made me a little giddy.

"Though hopefully, I'll have something you can fit into inside. Since I would hate to have to make you wear blood for the rest of the night. So then my lady, can I lead you back into the hall, as there is still a party going on and much cheer to be shared for the night." I say as I offer my arm. An with that I take her in and get her some clothes to change into while I change myself, before we head back to the party for the night.

I frown slightly.

Heh

I look dumbfounded for a while and then look at him. "If you truly believe me to be the Chosen of Ulric than please, leave me here, in this place for some time to meditate in private. While this explains some, it does not all. I've always believed in him and always thought he might have a special roll for me, but I've never been arrogant as to voice it. No, in this place I can feel his presence unlike any other, I might be able to get an answer to my prayers. I ask for you all for privacy."

They do so. Quickly bowing and leaving.

If/when they leave I kneel before the statue and whisper, "Ulric, I don't know how I got here but I know I'm in the form of the son of Fenris, the winter wolf... if I truly am his son in this form, give me a sign. I'd like to claim to be your son, if you will allow it. These people need more than a simple chosen. With the dangers to come they need to believe their god would send his own flesh to guard them... will you allow me to take that roll? I will not do so without your favor. Please. Send me a sign. Let me know if you approve."

There is total silence for what feels like an eternity, then the flames rise up into the rough shape of a man. You stare at the form, then the eyes look deep into you and for the first time since you arrived here, you feel small and weak, then the shape of a smile appears and the shape gives you a thumbsup and a thundering voices rumbles through you. “Sure, go for it kid.”

Then the flames die back down and you’re left alone.

It's all about the prophecy.

Heh

She giggles.

I fake frown at her.

"So proud," the black cloaked form appears before you, seemingly a ghost. He looks at you and for the first time you see his face. He looks like a reject from that old movie Nosfuratu.

Cosmina goes pale and starts to mutter, "Marea Morr ma protejeze, nu un alt un vampir..."

The vampire laughs. "Your god can't save you now, girl..."

The ground under your feet literally starts to churn like an ocean as hundreds, maybe thousands of arms burst from the soil...

I raise one of my feet and stomp the ground as hard as I can hopefully the ground rumbling shatters the bodies from the shockwave. Then I turn on the flames of my ax and start hacking into the limbs around us as quickly as I can, even picking people up to clear the stuff beneath their feet and when I mean quick I mean QUICK once, they’re clear I advance on the vampire, murder in my eyes.

It was quite the carnage.

I turn to face the villagers, sheathing my weapons, and introduce myself. They take you in for a moment, then the same man speaks, “Well Raynor you have our thanks in saving us.”

He looks around at the devastation and sighs, “It seems that we no longer have a home here.”

He turns back to you, “You saved us once already and I’m loath to do so again but...would you escort us out of this forest, at least until we reach civilization?”

Kyra looks all for saying no and hell no but you might be able to cut her off before something permanent happens.

They do so.  Quickly bowing and leaving.

I sigh and get to it.

I break out in laughter and shake my head. "Well, thanks dad..."

I pause, "Mind if I tell 'em Sigmar was so awesome you decided to make him your shieldbrother in an attempt to put a sock in some of the constant pointless bickering?"

If that's approved of I'll use it.

I leave the room and look at the Ur-Ulric and the others. "None of you are to say anything about what you've seen.... You..." I look at the Ur-Ulric. "We need to talk in private where there are no ears."

Once we're alone I tell him. "I'm not Ulric's chosen. I'm his son. He told me he's the one who placed me on that day, and he's the one who sent me the axes. Like Myrmidia I was sent to live amongst the mortals, to make my own destiny and prove my own worth. He didn't tell me much.

If it was given the okay, "Except to let you know that, yes... Sigmar is a god. Ulric was so impressed by the man that he made him his shieldbrother."

I raise one of my feet and stomp the ground as hard as I can hopefully the ground rumbling shatters the bodies from the shockwave.

The ground close to you liquifies and craters as the fround and bodies are pulped, though everyone is thrown from thier feet.

Then I turn on the flames of my ax and start hacking into the limbs around us as quickly as I can, even picking people up to clear the stuff beneath their feet and when I mean quick I mean QUICK once, they’re clear I advance on the vampire, murder in my eyes.

The limbs don't last long though around you in a large and slowly closing circle is the rest of the undead.

"You're more impressive than I thought," he observes, "So much the better. I've heard the rumors boy, and when I drain you my ascension will be assured!"

The vampire simply laughs at you and explodes into a cloud of bats.

Before Kyra manages to speak I take her aside, excusing ourselves as needing to speak before making the decision. I inquire about the route we are taking, weather or not we can drop these people off somewhere along the way. Yes, they will slow us down, but I'd rather not in essence hand the beastmen these people. Because they can't defend themselves as it stands now, but perhaps they can strengthen whatever community which they will join to prevent another sacking. This may not be much in the big picture, but it'll still be one more spot where the dark wont claim.

I'd rather not save them then just leave them to be slaughtered by the next beastmen band to come across them.

Vargr Skarin

Mort Sees this and picks up the pace himself and races faster, so do you, eventually he’s running his horse for all he’s worth. Combining the lack of armor and relatively flat land the two of you are tearing across the land at easily 30 miles an hours. And Still this isn’t the fastest you think you could run.

Eventually he’s forced to pull his horse to a stop before the animal collapses under him. He’s panting as well and he looks over to you in amazement. “Lady, that was incredible.”

I shrug and chuckle. "We've put quite a stretch of road behind us at the very least."

Same deal of hunting and foraging if and when we stop, should we not reach a settlement. Apropos that, I'll ask how far we are from one and what it's like. As reason, I give the fact that I'd been on the road for quite a while and while brisk cold streams and rivers and the lap of nature are serviceable enough, sometimes you just feel like you need a piping hot bath and a real bed.

After a few hours of waiting you spot a large pack of beast men heading south under the cliff. Easily a few hundred strong with shaman and a few minotaurs among them.

You immediately begin throwing boulders once they move past the beast quickly begin to panic as the rocks block their path back and even crush a few of their fellows.

The pistoleers begin opening fire in the back half of the herd and drive them forward, towards your position. When you charge them, lighting sparking from your weapons...it isn’t pretty...

It was strange, duck underneath and slash. From an intellectual standpoint I know I should be worried, smash in this one's head, grab it's weapon and throw. I was neither a soldier, a sociopath, or had trained to kill, and yet this was so easy, sway back from the Minotaur's club, run up it and kick the bastard's head right off, horns straight into one of the shaman's eyes. I don't feel anything at all from killing them, even if they're monsters I should feel something right? The scent of ozone, the sensations of hair standing, one of the bastards was about to cast, keyword was. I mean I've felt bad about crushing insects before, so was it the ROB? Or is it me? A bullrush, there was no other way to call it, smashing aside beastmen and minotaurs like bugs, charging straight at the last shaman I called forth the lightning. What exactly have I become? Just a few left, a dozen beastmen and one last minotaur, it was strange, I was beginning to like this. Smiling, I ran. It was time to end the enemies of man.

After the battle, I get the troops organized, check the wounded, make sure the shot and powder is till good, horses are alright, make sure Piet is alright, and split the loot between the men evenly. Everyone gets one share. Burn the bodies, the shamans' equipment, and bury any warpstone they've got on them. Scout back a bit on the beastmen's trail and make sure they were the only one's using the ridge, then regroup with the main force at the swamps.

She looks at you and while she doesn’t smile, she doesn’t look like she’s utterly heart broken like before.  The two of you come back in and no one comments on whatever had happened outside between the two of you.

The next day, the caravan prepares to set out.  Digging through your loot you drag out 500 gc for when you visit the Dwarves.  You say your good byes to the others and hop a wagon.  The ride is actually fairly easy until you reach the Hold.  When the dwarves learn who it is they welcome the caravan in.  What do you plan on doing in the hold?

Either way I turn my attention towards the zombies around us.  And go to fucking town on them, with the intention of carving a path open for the rest of the group.  I also ask what the plan is, Stand our group or run for it.  If we stand our ground then I’ll literally starting running a clockwise circle around my companions with my shield out and trample everything I can and hack at anything that doesn't stop twitching when I ram it with my shield.  I don’t allow a damn thing near Cosmina, Frederick, or the others, the whole while I how like a damn banshee.

If we run then I simply plow as big a hole through the undead as I can and get the others through.  Even Carrying Cosmina if I have to.  Then once we get outside of the circle of zombies I turn around and begin my deadly work.  Once again I try to prevent anything from reaching Cosmina or the others if I they look to be overrun, I also use the flames as much as I can when I fight..

She looks a bit conflicted while she doesn’t want to be slowed down by yet more humans and humans she already knows she doesn’t particularly care for.  She also loathes the beastmen and would deny them as many victims as possible.

She finally agrees that the two of you will guard them as you make to Salzenmund

Your progress after meeting with the village is considerably slowed and is even more so when you run across other villages that were forced to be abandoned either through beastmen or fay predations.  By the time you reach Salzenmund the capital of Nordland you have at least 1500 people with you.  All of them are awed at your physical prowess.  When you approach the city gates you’re accosted by a contingent of troops.  The commander a knight, quickly demands what is going on here and who the hell are you.  He flinches at the sight of the elf.

Well the nearest settlement, and the one along the road back to home is unfortunately the holding of the family his lord’s daughter was going to marry into if he hadn’t...had fun with her a few days ago.  Unfortunately, he isn’t entirely sure how to get back from here without sticking to the road.  But if they travel by the castle he’s sure to be recognized and he isn’t sure if news of his actions have spread yet.

Any opinions?

And the remaining few die horribly and quickly.  The pistoleers stare in awed shock, they knew something about your raw power but this was something beyond their wildest imaginations.

You return to camp triumphant, and you learn that the main force faced the marauders as well.  While their casualties were higher, they still managed to drive off the warbands of the Northmen.

When you give the Lords your report, their responses vary, Heintz is highly glad and proud that you’re his vassal.  As for the Kislevites, well the older man is more than a little shocked.  He’d call bullshit but he’s heard the talk from the pistoleers that you talked with and he’s forced to agree with them.  The young lady once again says little but her eyes take in much and she studies you with great interest.

The flames form a hand doing the thumbs up one last time before disappearing.

"I'm gonna have to ask you for more... eternal wisdom later on. But thank you.

One look from the Ar-Ulric has the rest of them scattering.

I sigh. "This should smother the rumors for at least 3 hours...

He stares at you...awe in his eyes, true there were folk that claimed that they were descended of Ulric from the ancient days but this....?

"I'm the son of Ulric and a mortal woman... I'm not a god, but stronger than any mortal man. From the sound of things I was sent to this world... basically earn my place and forge my legend."

That seems to rock the man’s world a bit more, apparently the gods Ulric and Sigmar were close comrades...and their followers have been at each other’s throat for ages....damn just damn...

"It seems Sigmar impressed him so much that when the man passed beyond the mountains, that my father was so impressed by the courage and devotion of he who has been the mightiest of his champions, that he offered to make him his brother in battle and playfully tossed him a helmet as Sigmar didn't have one at the time..."

Note: According to the man who founded the sigmarite faith, he had a vision of Ulric giving Sigmar a crown and crowning him as king of the gods...

“There will be many on both sides who would take that poorly...”

"There are many fools in this world," I observe, "I'll see what else I can discover during my meditations and prayers..."

I sigh and lean against the door. "And here I just wanted to smash monsters and become fabulously wealthy in the process. No pressure!" I do a little laugh and its clear I've overwhelmed by it all.

“Sorry...”

Fredrick is the first back up. "No worrries! What are you lads NAPPING?! UP AN AT 'EM!"

I snarl, “I’m really starting to hate that son of a bitch.”

Fredrick blasts the head off a zombie. "Stop yer belly achin' and kill more zombies! That goers double for the rest of you!"

If I can I throw a zombie at the bat cloud, maybe I can bring a few of the bats down and reduce him.

They spread out the moment they formed.

Zombie bits go a flying.

They're going to follow if you run. You need to wipe 'em out.

Quite understandable really, elves are long lived and to them individual humans wont be worth much.

She finally agrees that the two of you will guard them as you make to Salzenmund

I thank her for her agreement.

Your progress after meeting with the village is considerably slowed and is even more so when you run across other villages that were forced to be abandoned either through beastmen or fay predations.  By the time you reach Salzenmund the capital of Nordland you have at least 1500 people with you.

Well... that grew rather out of control pretty fast. Starting from less then 100 to over 1500? That... is a rather big accomplishment. Still, that's 1500 people less under threat of the beastmen.

All of them are awed at your physical prowess.

Well, a reputation can be both a good and a bad thing to have. Only time will tell what my reputation will bring.

When you approach the city gates you’re accosted by a contingent of troops.  The commander a knight, quickly demands what is going on here and who the hell are you.  He flinches at the sight of the elf.

I step forward, drawing myself to my full height, meeting the eyes of the commanding knight, which can be rather intimidating I have to say, and spoke.

"Sir knight, I am Marcus Raynor, and this is my fellow traveler Kyra. And these people here are the inhabitants of the various villages within the forest and nearby whom were forced to leave their villages by the threat of the beastmen or fay, indeed, some were forced to flee for their lives as the beastmen came to sack their homes. We have assisted them in reaching civilization and safety so that they may be safe and so that the beastmen would have less victims to menace. Question them yourself if you must to confirm this. Unless you would deny them succor from the beastmen and worse, do not bar them from the safety of the city."

Once I make sure the people would be accepted into the city, I bid good bye to the villagers, as Kyra and I must do what we came here to do, then move on to our next destination.

I politely request a meeting with there chief and leaders, while heading over the Jarl's letter. As I bring grave news to them that would effect all of them in their holds. If given such a meeting I tell them of the coming Everchosen of chaos, who he is and that me and my Jarl will be spreading the word to our other southern neighbors, so that we may join together and try to resist the coming storm. If asked how we plan to do this, I'll tell and if need by show them my power and that we know where the last item of power the Everchosen will collect before he can raise to his full power. An that the current plan is that once all our allies are warned of the coming danger, I and a group of other strong men will leave to try to prevent the Everchosen from getting his last item of power and thus prevent his raise at all. Though if we fail, then we plan to fight, as we will never bend knee to the four again.

As for the other things I will do while I am with the dwarfs, I'll take a look around there hold or at least the places I'm allowed to go and get to know there people better, so as to try to gain bonds/friends with some of their people and learn more about them. I'll also see if I can gain the interest of a runesmith with my gauntlet and greaves an see if the dwarfs can help further empower them or just help me get a greater understanding of them. I'll also look into getting getting the bested forged Sword, shield, fullplate armor and Great helm I can for Kenna with a viking bear motif on them all. An lastly, I'll try to see if I can hire the services of a dwarven architect and mason, so I can have their help in improving my holdings defenses.

Vargr Skarin

Well the nearest settlement, and the one along the road back to home is unfortunately the holding of the family his lord’s daughter was going to marry into if he hadn’t...had fun with her a few days ago.  Unfortunately, he isn’t entirely sure how to get back from here without sticking to the road.  But if they travel by the castle he’s sure to be recognized and he isn’t sure if news of his actions have spread yet.

Any opinions?

Best to go past without stopping then. A few more days on the road ... or forest trail, in this case, are fair payment for not being accosted by people with sharp and pointy objects. I'll ask Mort to tell me when we're in those lands, and how their layout looks, then take the time to circumnavigate by way of the forest. It shouldn't be too difficult if I take point, unless they've got extensive patrols going into the woods or somesuch.

The dwarves accept the letter as they know the man, some of them personally.  Their faces grow grim when they are told about the movings towards the north.  They’d heard rumors of such troubles and bands of northern tribes had been testing the edge of their holdings for some time now.

When you offer your plan to actually go out and deny the Everchosen his final artifact.  The entire body of Dwarf leaders openly stare at you, for the sheer audacity of your plan.  When you show them your raw power they seem to start changing their tune.  Then when you show your gauntlets and greeves...there is an odd stillness in the air and the Dwarves seem to stare at your equipment like they are the only things worth looking at in the entire universe.  You swear on or two of them are drooling and an old dwarf woman who looks old enough to be your grandmother, even if she were human, seems to be crossing her legs with a discomforting frequency.

You get that same odd reaction when a runesmith happens to see your equipment.  It’s like birds and their reflections or something and it stops the moment you put them away.

As for the armor for Kenna, you get a promise to have something ready for a total of 200 gc.  He seemed ready to say 300 but one glance at the runes of your gear seems to mellow him out.

Looking around you manage to find a journeyman stoneworker willing to go with you for food, ale and 20 gc a month.

The dwarves accept the letter as they know the man, some of them personally.  Their faces grow grim when they are told about the movings towards the north.  They’d heard rumors of such troubles and bands of northern tribes had been testing the edge of their holdings for some time now.
Man, I love having friends that can smooth over things and make my life easier. Smile

Though the news of the northern tribes in a little worrying, since it might mean we might not have as much time left as I would hope.

When you offer your plan to actually go out and deny the Everchosen his final artifact.  The entire body of Dwarf leaders openly stare at you, for the sheer audacity of your plan.  When you show them your raw power they seem to start changing their tune.
"Though it is a bold plan, it is also a plan that can see our people not suffer the full blunt of chaos's forces and the one that might stop them cold. An would not now be the time where bold action would be needed to take place?"

Then when you show your gauntlets and greaves...there is an odd stillness in the air and the Dwarves seem to stare at your equipment like they are the only things worth looking at in the entire universe.  You swear one or two of them are drooling and an old dwarf woman who looks old enough to be your grandmother, even if she were human, seems to be crossing her legs with a discomforting frequency.
Sweet Thor, I was not expecting that reaction. "Well my good dwarfs, it seems you might have a better understanding of what I have then if your reactions to my arms is anything to go by. An since you all seem to have a great interest in them and I would like to see if you could tell me about them or better yet empower then to greater power. So I'm willing to offer to leave my greaves with you and your runesmiths for study for a year and a day when I leave, so that you can try to learn all you can from and understand there workings. But in exchange, I would like you to do all you can when I come back to improve both of my arms.

So does that sound fair to all?" An then once they agree. "So who would you suggest I give my greaves too?"

An if asked why I'm offering such a lopsided trade to them. "It's because my Jarl speaks highly of you and your people Chief, because who he would call friend I would call friend and because with the coming trails that come for us all, we all need to do what we can to help each other as much as we can. As to do otherwise and fail would be the height of foolishness."

You get that same odd reaction when a runesmith happens to see your equipment.  It’s like birds and their reflections or something and it stops the moment you put them away.
Man this is just like watching a cat with some yarn, they just can't get enough of these things. Though quickly getting the dwarfs attention again, I then give him my greaves and tell all I know of their powers and effects so that he can have a much better idea into them and help him get a good start into their workings.

As for the armor for Kenna, you get a promise to have something ready for a total of 200 gc.  He seemed ready to say 300 but one glance at the runes of your gear seems to mellow him out.
Then I take the deal with a smile and pay the good dwarf his due for his craft. Though I ask how long it will take him to complete this order, so I now when I can expect my goods.

Looking around you manage to find a journeyman stoneworker willing to go with you for food, ale and 20 gc a month.
Great, then I hire him on as a retainer for his asked priced and lodging. As a skilled dwarf like that is worth his weight in gold.

Deciding to avoid the castle you decide to bushwhack it.  While Mort doesn’t know their patrol layout, luckily you manage to avoid whatever patrols are out there and you are quickly on your way.  You notice however, that the bushwhacking has resulted in Morts clothing, very fancy stuff, to be torn, shredded, tattered and dirty and while he isn’t making any complaints.  The man sticks out like a sore thumb.

I comment that he might want to pick up something sturdier when he next gets the chance. If he has any coin with him anyway, since I doubt my other idea of raiding some washlines would go over very well at all. As he is now, people might outright assume I went and ambushed a Knight and am now left with what's left of his gear and his horse.

Also, Mort not complaining about that is a bit unexpected. I pay a little more attention to how he's handling things. Could it be that he's learned to shut up and soldier?

I wait for Kyra to hand the count the letter or to hand me the letter for me to hand to the count, and then settle in while he reads it, which he will likely disbelieve at first.

“True...considering who you are that makes perfect sense.”

"2500 years of religious bickering, all because one idiot zealot couldn't tell the difference between a crown and a well crafted helmet..."

“Oh...gods...the insanity of it all...gods....damn...  Though if we can ever get those Sigmarite’s rods out of their asses maybe....just maybe we might do some good there.”

"I hope so. So what now and is there anyone you believe we should inform about the...truth of my nature?"

He turns quite serious... “We’ll need to be careful with this information.  Someone claiming to be a true son of the Lord of Battle and Winter would wreak havoc not just between us and the Sigmarites...but even among our own ranks.  And I tested you right then and there DAMN!”

He snarls...  frustrated at what he did...

SLAUGHTER!

Heh

They're already off into the distance dood. Not gonna be that easy to bump 'em off! Wink

DAMMIT!

BURN BURN BURN!

HA! HA! HA! HA! HA!

All dead.

Good riddance.

Most everyone is alright. Some injury but no deaths.

Thank heavens.

Cosmina looks about a moment away from a freak out

Concern on my face I slowly approach Cosmina, then I crouch so that I’m not towering her.  “Cosmina...are you alright?”

If she doesn’t flinch from me I place a hand on her shoulder.  “Was that the vampire that...took your mother and sisters?”

If that is the answer, “I promise he isn’t going to be anywhere near you. What happened to your kin will not happen to you.  I’ll make sure of that, whatever it takes.”

Then we head to base to talk with the priest.  I make sure to tell him absolutely everything I remember happening in that clearing.  The vampire’s words, his demeanor what he said to me and to her as well as something about draining me and ‘ascending’ and what that could mean and if anyone recognizes him if Cosmina either doesn’t tell me his name or if this is a different vampire.

After that well I make sure Cosmina is alright.  I won’t pry but I’ll make sure that I’m there, watching, waiting.  I’ll even faux sharpen my ax every so often if that’s what it takes to prove I take this damn seriously.  From there I guess wait for the other experts...however many there effing end up being...

Man, I love having friends that can smooth over things and make my life easier. Smile

Though the news of the northern tribes in a little worrying, since it might mean we might not have as much time left as I would hope.

Well the Northern tribes are always cantankerous and very sensitive to the whims of the chaos gods...so you might have some time or you might not.

"Though it is a bold plan, it is also a plan that can see our people not suffer the full blunt of chaos's forces and the one that might stop them cold. An would not now be the time where bold action would be needed to take place?"

“If it were possible, but we are not sure how to even go about doing something like this such an artifact would be found only in the deepest parts of the waste and we doubt even you could survive going into that hell....not right now...we...shall contact our contacts in the other holds...maybe something can be learned...”

The Leaders of the clans of the hold and the elder runsmiths openly stare at you for such an offer.  But they agree.  They will spare no expenses for such beauty to study they will give you the best of their efforts.

They voice their approval of such an honorable man and they make mention of offering discounts to the Jarl for his trade with the hold for the forseeable future.

Thougn this is just like watching a cat with some yarn, they just can't get enough of these things. Though quickly getting the dwarfs attention again, I then give him my greaves and tell all I know of their powers and effects so that he can have a much better idea into them and help him get a good start into their workings.

He nods and writes down everything you tell him muttering under his breath..Then he asks what it is you’re trying to do with these?

OOC: Seriously what the hell else could you possibly want with these things?  They’re damn near perfect as is.

Then I take the deal with a smile and pay the good dwarf his due for his craft. Though I ask how long it will take him to complete this order, so I now when I can expect my goods.

A week at the outside.  He has other obligations, you can’t rush quality, he IS giving you a good price.

Great, then I hire him on as a retainer for his asked priced and lodging. As a skilled dwarf like that is worth his weight in gold.

Yup, anything else?

Heh, why not. I'll sit a while, let's see the ladies dance. I'm not a follower of Sigmar after all.

It is a fun and quite sexy show.  You notice that one redhaired girl dancing out there moves closer and she...for lack of a better word, intensifies the force of her dance, seemingly just for you.

Rieverre wrote:I comment that he might want to pick up something sturdier when he next gets the chance. As he is now, people might outright assume I went and ambushed a Knight and am now left with what's left of his gear and his horse.

He checks himself and he lucks out, enough for some clothing good enough for a noble, but not high faluting enough that it’ll last bushwhacking your way back to Brionne castle.

But he’ll have to find a merchant willing to sell to him.  As rough as he looks.

Also, Mort not complaining about that is a bit unexpected. I pay a little more attention to how he's handling things. Could it be that he's learned to shut up and soldier?

Something like that or mussing his clothes is worth not getting his balls strung up by his paramour’s would have been in-laws.

More like, holy shit! This guy slaughters beastmen and we'll be safe with him! Yay!

Hm, why do I have a feeling that I wont like the results?

Heh

I nod at them. "I have done my part in bringing them to safety. What happens from now on depends on them and their own strength and perseverance."

“Ulric and Taal bless you.”

Huh, elves have an agreement of course, probably why she can come and go.

heh

I sighed, being mistake for Norscan again. I barely resist the urge to facepalm. "I claim no Norscan as my people, Elector Count." I stated simply. "As for what I and my companion is here for, we have come to deliver a letter to you, lord, it is quite an urgent letter and for your eyes only." I emphasize the last part with a small bow.

I wait for Kyra to hand the count the letter or to hand me the letter for me to hand to the count, and then settle in while he reads it, which he will likely disbelieve at first.

He accepts the letter from her, raising his eyes when he sees the sigils on the letter.  Then he reads it.  When he’s done, he’s turned as pale as a ghost he then demands that the hall be cleared which it quickly is.  Then he turns back to you and says, “Is this letter true?  Is there truly another Everchosen on the rise?”

A smile spreads across his face, "Yes...that might just work lad... I know Gunner loves nothing more than feeling special the sap I still don't understand why my predecessor let him last that long." He calls the priests and templars that were in the temple at the time, 2 priests and 10 templars. He tells them a slightly edited telling of your story to them and explains to them that a new order must be formed to keep what was witnessed today a secret. News like this becoming widespread would become the source of a conflagration in the city, especially with the recent death of Boris's only son and heir Steffon Todbringer. Seriously, by the end of the day the tale of a Norscan looking man and a elf saving multiple villages and bringing near on 1500 villagers to safety are gonna be all over the city. And beyond.

“Ulric and Taal bless you.”

I nod politely and gratefully, while I may not believe in them, the good gods of this world are welcome to bless me against the various nasties of this world.

I nod gravely. "Aye, that's the truth of it, as far as I know, soon enough, rumor should filter in of things stirring in the north. Elector Count, some may see the various ills currently being inflicted upon the Empire as singular events, but I am not one of them, the beastmen whom worship Chaos are moving once more, I have experienced this first hand, countless villages have been put to the torch count, we personally led nearly 1500 villagers from various villages that were under threat or have been overrun to this city. The forest fay are rejecting those of the Empire. The northern marauders are moving against Kislev in numbers unheard of, marauder raids have increased, and not least the High Elves are once more becoming occupied by the attacks of their dark cousins. If you connect them together, it paints a very grim picture indeed. Yes, a new Everchosen is on the rise, and unless the Empire manages to prepare the devastation will be horrendous. Even now the Empire is being weakened in preparation for the eventual march of the Everchosen."

He laughs and says, "And a philosopher as well lad?"

"I've traveled long and far. Before this came up, I was hoping to play at conquering the Border Princes and driving the Orcs from the Badlands... I still hope to do so." I sigh. "Wherever I've traveled I've seen nothing but poverty and desperation... yet the blessings of the gods are so rich in this world that if we were to truly put our efforts in focus we could root out the core of this rot. Right now the rich become so rich that many lose their minds to excess, while the poor are so impoverished that every moment is suffering. The Boredom and Arrogance of the idle rich... the Suffering and anger of the poor... during Sigmar's time these things were uncommon. Even Sigmar himself, the unquestioned Emperor of the Empire of Men, chosen Champion of Ulric wouldn't dare lord himself over even the lowest of beggars the way the common nobility today feel is their natural due."

I pause, "I advocate no revolution or any purge like the mad pamphleteers of Altdorf, but the people have grown soft these past two and a half millennium. The people have lost their courage and pride while the nobles have forgotten that in times long past that their ancestors were not chosen by the gods, but by the people they ruled. The tribes of our ancestors chose the wisest and strongest to lead them, to protect them, and if they cease to be wise, they transform themselves from sovereigns into usurpers. What was once a people of proud men lead by wise champions has become a mire of angry, diseased, shit covered weaklings lead by decedent scheming women..." I pause for dramatic effect, "Eventually what will result is a nation with the forethought of a Bretonian, the paranoia of a Kislevite, the organizational skills of a Border prince, and the boundless masculine qualities of your average tillian castrato."

I pause. "While this is just my thoughts... to truly trive, we must temper the knowledge we've gained through the ages with the wisdom of the old ways."

He silent at that but you can see his that his thoughts are spinning at a rapid pace, forming plans.

"Farthing for your, honorable one?"

"Sigmar as well?  Where did you hear these rumors lad?"  There is a concerned look on his face.

"Vague stories of a Blacksmith's apprentice named Valten who was born with under the twin tailed comet the mark of the Sigmar on his hand."

I pause. "I've also heard that the Chaos Lord Archeon is collecting the six artifacts of chaos...," I look at him, "It seems he quests to become the Everchosen of Chaos... If he unites the artifacts he will be able to unite the worshipers of the dark gods... the last time this happened was the hoard of Asavar Kul the Anointed... the man defeated by Magnus the Pious..."

I pause. "If rumor tells... he has five."

A smile spreads across his face, "Yes...that might just work lad... I know Gunner loves nothing more than feeling special the sap I still don't understand why my predecessor let him last that long."

"Probably has some use. Gods only know what..."

I politely introduce myself to them, being polite and friendly but making it clear I accept no shit. I do tell the Templars I look forward to sparing with them... a friendly spar as a test of skill for I hear there are none finer!

"Not my place to say, honestly..."

Ooooohhhh boy... Well I clean myself up, smile and be as respectful as I can, "Good day Father, good day Master Mage.  Apparently I've become something of a person of interest to certain circles of people.  So what can I do for you today?"

The Wizard wants to see your weapons, the Priest examine you...

The priest has you do all kinds of tests and rituals. After a couple hours he seems downright flustered and very manic...

While the mage is holding a keg of ale, looking like he's moments from losing his mind...

They both talk in private and then speak alone to the High Priest.

"M'boy," the priest says, "They would like you to accompany them to Middenheim."

Meanwhile they send out two runners, one north, one south...

You cut many stones in half by accident and it semes you're just making dust. Your blades don't dull or sharpen. They grind off rock.

The week goes along fairly well, many are stunned by your feats of strength and even invite you to beerhalls to booze with them. You pay for your drinks of course. And they seem vaguely impressed at how well you can booze with them. Overall a fun week.
Well I considering how in coming days, things like this a good cheer might be in real short supply soon and party with the dwarfs like there is no tomorrow. Though once the week is up I say my good byes to my new friends and allies and head back with my gifts and retainer ready to face the hard tasks that will come.

An then once home I'll head out my gifts to my friends and give special care to Kenna's since she will be getting the full set of goods. An then after that I'll touch base with the Jarl again to see how plans for the grand meeting is coming while preparing for it with and tell give him a fill brief of what happened with the dwarfs.

Though before I leave with the Jarl again, I'll get things in place for my new retainer to further improve my holdings with my help and then without it once I'm gone.

He checks himself and he lucks out, enough for some clothing good enough for a noble, but not high faluting enough that it’ll last bushwhacking your way back to Brionne castle.

But he’ll have to find a merchant willing to sell to him. As rough as he looks.

I tell him that considering how far he says 'home' is it might be wise to invest in something simple but sturdy. It might be a blow to his pride, but it would also be replaceable. Also, it would probably be a good idea if I wasn't around for the entire 'approaching the merchant' part. Large, rought-looking Norscan type, guy in roughed up clothing, Bretonnian warhorse ... it might lead people to jump to certain conclusions and borrow us more trouble than we care to engage in at this juncture.

I'll get myself somewhere I've got an overview of whatever village he's going shopping in.

Seriously, by the end of the day the tale of a Norscan looking man and a elf saving multiple villages and bringing near on 1500 villagers to safety are gonna be all over the city. And beyond.

Indeed....

I nod politely and gratefully, while I may not believe in them, the good gods of this world are welcome to bless me against the various nasties of this world.

We shall see won’t we?

The Count is silent for a long while.  The last time an Everchosen had risen it had taken the might of the entire empire as well as that of Kislev, the Dwarven Holds, and the High Elves to turn Asavar Kul at Praag.  He turns back to the two of you.  “This is a grave situation here.  This Archaon, if he is truly Asavar’s successor...”

He trails off for a while...his thoughts coming to the fore of his focus.  Then suddenly, he slams his hands on the arms of his seat and stands.  “Then we must do all that we can.”  He calls for his secretary to begin writing commands to the various cities and settlements in Nordland to prepare for the storm, as well as messages to the other elector counts and the emperor.

He then turned to the two of you, “And what do you intend to do now?”

I pause. "While this is just my thoughts... to truly thrive, we must temper the knowledge we've gained through the ages with the wisdom of the old ways."

He’s dead silent for a long while, “Were you any other man...I might call you mad and a fool.  But you...considering who you are and what you can do...I think this old empire just might have a bit of hope.  Though I am curious how you will do it?”

"Farthing for your, honorable one?"

“Nothing yet, but maybe later...yes...maybe later...”

"Vague stories of a Blacksmith's apprentice named Valten who was born with under the twin tailed comet the mark of the Sigmar on his hand."

He seems to internalize that name a few times before he looks back to you.

“That is not good lad...that is not good at all...”

"Probably has some use. Gods only know what..."

“We can only hope.

I politely introduce myself to them, being polite and friendly but making it clear I accept no shit. I do tell the Templars I look forward to sparing with them... a friendly spar as a test of skill for I hear there are none finer!

The templars look almost 2 feet taller at the complement and agree to such a spar though they wonder how well they would actually fair against a man who is a blood son of Ulric, and someone with the strength of 1000 men.

I need to speak to the Graf about a One-Eyed Beastman.

You walk through the city from the temple of Ulric to the dwellings of the Graf.  When the guards accost you, you present the letter of recommendation from count von Uder and they allow you through though they wonder what the hell is going on.

You enter the Middenplatz and are led to a side room where a stuffy looking fellow introduces himself as a secretary of some sort and says that the Graf is a busy man and under great stress with the loss of his son so it might be some time before an appointment can be made, even after you show him the letter from von Uder, you swear you hear him mutter something about dumb bumpkins little better than peasants but he doesn’t seem to realize that you heard him insult your benefactor.  What do you do now?  As he says it’ll be at least 10 days before you even have a ghost of a chance of seeing the Graf.

"Good."

I grin.

"Not my place to say, honestly..."

I raise my eyebrow at that but don’t comment further.

The Wizard wants to see your weapons, the Priest examine you...

“Alright...”  I hand the wizard my gear and I submit myself to the Priest.

The priest has you do all kinds of tests and rituals. After a couple hours he seems downright flustered and very manic...

“Uh...Father are you alright?  Is there something wrong?”

While the mage is holding a keg of ale, looking like he's moments from losing his mind...

“Master Wizard, is there something wrong with my weapons?”

They both talk in private and then speak alone to the High Priest.

"M'boy," the priest says, "They would like you to accompany them to Middenheim."

I stare at them, slack jawed.... “Middenheim...THE MIDDENHEIM!  The City of the White Wolf?  The center of the All-Father’s cult in the Empire?  Hell Yes I’ll Go!”  I rush out to tell the others then I pause for a moment and turn back around.  “May I bring someone along?”

If yes then I go talk with Cosmina, I tell her about what happened with the Ulrician Priest and the Gold Wizard and how they want me to go to Middenheim with them.  I then tell her that I asked if I could bring someone along and since they said yes, “Cosmina...would...would you like to come with me?  I realize that it’s a long way from Averland but it would be nice if there was a familiar face there.”  I give her a hopeful pleading  look, or as hopeful and pleading as a 6’10’’ viking can.

Meanwhile they send out two runners, one north, one south...

…oh dear...this will not end well will it?

Well right before you’re about to head out the gates, a large horn rumbles through the entire mountain.  When you ask, you learn that a large army from the north is on the march.  Most likely Graelings though there are plenty in that horde (6000 strong) that are warriors of chaos, their armor as this as a man’s fist in some place.  They are about to plant themselves at the gates of the hold.  Unless you flee now you don’t have a chance of getting back.  None of your Bjornling companions (the merchants and caravan workers) want to leave.  They are standing their ground and ready to fight.

He agrees and settles for some well made but durable stuff the tailor happened to be selling in town.  He returns with some actually good stuff for road travel though the garish hat with the silly feather makes you look at him though he smiles sheepishly and says, “I’m sorry...I couldn’t resist my friends.”

You continue on your way to the coast.  A few nights later, you’re awoken to the feeling of a cord around your neck.  YOUR BEING STRANGLED....not very well.  Despite someone digging, twisting and pulling with all their might...nothing is happening....you could sit their all not and not be hindered in the slightest.  Unfortunately the sounds of struggle elsewhere indicate that you might need to move soon.

Well you meet with the lords, to your surprise the old lord from Kislev welcomes you as warmly as Heintz, the lady is reserved but she greets you politely.

When you ask what the plan is now, they tell you that the current plan is to pursue the horde that the main army fought with and then make another great patrol before disbanding back to their original homes if there are no other larger chaos bands.

Well looks like I'll get to show the Dwarfs what I can really do right now when I really go all out. An so with that thought I tell the others head back in while I go talk with the dwarfs so we can plan how we crush these northern bastards.

Then I'll head other to where the Elders and Chief, an offer to show them what I can really do and help them take care of there army problem. With me backing the back of the enemy army, while there forces holding back and getting in place to take out the broken reminders of the horde that is let. An if they go for it, I'll offer to head out with there forces to meet then Graelings, then run around to flank there forces and just plow through them breaking their forces, killing there leaders, archers and casters if they have them. So that once I meet back up with the dwarf forces, we can just grind the rest to dust.

We’ll get to this later.
Alright.
