How will we do this, by the way? Will you use the last consensus from the SB-thread (visiting Tesha's sister, I believe), or will there be new voting here?

Yes. I'll be using that one.

Keeper's Quest Empty Re: Keeper's Quest

Post by Psyckosama Sat Dec 22, 2012 4:10 pm

Cool. One thing I want to bring up with everyone, when it was on SB I was actually doing my best to keep it clean. The most questionable content I checked with a Mod and tried hard to avoid even remotely descriptive sexual content. Sadly though it seems they keep getting more anal while at the same time not out and warning anyone about it, instead slamming down bans out of the blue. I mean really, banning me for being "a creeper" for something nasty that's out and out called evil in the thread itself. Hell, since when has being a creepy been a ban-able offense? News to me.

Anyways, this brings up a question. Now that I don't have to kowtow to those idiots, how much more dark and how much more blatant do you want this to be? I'm not going to be making it smut, but I'd have no problem dirtying it up a bit.

What would you like to change?

I wouldn't mind if it got a bit more blatant/dirty; might be interesting in that it opens up the possibility of showing certain aspects of characters - even if indirectly - that would otherwise go completely unnoticed/mentioned otherwise. Certainly no smut, though. In my experience, unless the story is dedicated to erotica and the like, explicit sex-scenes tend to be rather disruptive.

In regards to the tone/darkness, though, I'm fine with the previously existing level. One thing I liked about the DK/Overlord/EG games was that they were very tongue-in-cheek, and going too dark/realistic carries too much a chance to remove that appeal, in my opinion.

Sounds good to me. I was actually thinking about that level myself.

I'm even considering editing this into a coherent fanfiction and posting it to FF.net.

Yeah, I'm going to have to second that one as having the smut/dark meter staying at around DK/OL levels of dark would be best in my opinion as that way we can be dark enough to be grim and gritty when we want without getting to silly/realistic. Plus, when you do have to hit us with something darker or more twisted it can have a greater impact or hell when we do it, it will have a lasting effect.

Keeper's Quest Empty Re: Keeper's Quest

Post by Psyckosama Sat Dec 22, 2012 8:08 pm

“So boss,” Tesha asked, breaking his train of thought, “Can we see my sister? Please?”

Seth sighed. While he wasn’t exactly sure if it was a good idea to go meet with the local important type peoples without building up his reputation first, he also didn’t want to listen to her all day. Besides, if she was as well connected as she sounded, then she’d probably know he was here already, and considered he’d arrived with her kid sister, well, he didn’t want to be disrespectful.

“Fine,” he muttered.

“Great!” she cheered, “There’s a messenger’s shack just around the corner and I have to send one to tell her to meet us anyways!”

He sighed. She was getting pretty excitable and knew the area. Best let her decide. “Fine. Lets go.”

She nodded vigorously and lead him around the bend to what was literally, a small hole in the wall with a curtain thrown over it. She simply pushed her way inside, and inside was a small, dimly lit room with a counter. On the other side of the counter was a haggard, one eyed man, and behind him was a small doorway. On the desk was a slowly burning lamp, a number of pencils and pens, some wax sticks, and a nameplate that simply said ‘Shank’.

“Right then. Either you’re here to send messages, as for directions or to chit chat, if you’re here to chit chat, get the fuck out, if you want directions, that’ll be two gold,” the old man said bluntly. “So which is it.”

“I have a message,” Seth replied placing his letter on the table.

“Good, business. Welcome to Licky Split’s Parcel and Post. Sorry ‘bout the rudeness there, but if one more bugger steps in here askin’ for directions without payin’ up, or trying to make bloody small talk. So, boyo, what are ye sending and you want it bulk or priority.”

“What’s the difference?”

“Well, with one we wait until we have a full sack goin’ down the same line, with the other we wrangle up a lad to send it all special like.”

Seth nodded. “Priority then. It’s just a letter.”

“Righto. So where you want it, how important is it, and how fast you want it to get there.”

Seth placed the letter on the table. “I want this sent to Torin of the Rapture Guild of Warlocks, it’s nothing too critical, but I do want it there intact, and as for how fast, as fast as is reasonably possible.”

Shank narrowed his eye slightly in thought, and glanced at a map. It looked like something showing a subway or a bus route. “Right then. Rapture’s a ways away. I’d say three turnovers, four if we avoid Skumpitt.”

“Why avoid Skumpitt?” Seth asked.

“It’s a pit,” he replied bluntly.

“And I take it the inhabitants are complete scum.”

“Righto, laddie. And a messenger has to cross the whole bloody town to switch portals.”

Seth nodded. “So what does this matter?”

“If we skip it, base cost is a four line messenge. If we go via Skumpitt, it’ll be a hair faster but I’ll have to charge you a larger security fee to make sure it gets there.”

Seth nodded. “In that case, skip it.”

The old man raised the eyebrow over his good eye. “Not gonna ask the price difference laddie?”

“No,” Seth replied, “I find it’s better to establish a functional relationship by not needlessly endangering people’s physical well being. Besides, I’d call it a pretty safe assumption that the security fee raise would be more than the extra turnover.”

Shank smirked. “Well thought and reasoned, boyo. If that’s the way ye feel, I’ll tell my lads to place care over speed. Might take a bit longer to reach, but I can skim some coin off the security deposit.”

Seth nodded. “Alright. So how much?”

“One-fifty,” he replied, “Fifty for priority, fifteen for each additional line, I’ll let you off with a twenty-five gold security deposit, and another thirty for bribes.”

He blinked. “Bribes?”

“Aye. Warlocks tend to be the private types. Normally takes a spot of coin to figure out where the hell they’ve gone to.”

“And what if it doesn’t cost thirty to find him?”

“We keep it,.” Shank replied, “Might very well cost more, but we take your coin we’re gonna get your damned message delivered.”

“Worth

Seth reached into his pocket and using his keeper powers withdrew 175 gold from his treasury.

“One seventy-five,” He said as he turned over his letter and the gold, “Safe and fast, friend, safe and fast.”

“Like the way you think,” he replied, pocketing the extra 25 gold with a toothy smile that showed off his yellowed nuggets. “I’ll make sure to assign my most skillful lad.”

He looked over to Tesha. “Now about you, girly. You here to send something or are you just part of the scenery? If you got something to send, what do you need. If you’re looking to decorate the place, you could start by showin’ a bit more skin.”

She flushed red, “I’m Tesha you old pervert!”

He blinked his eye and pulled up a monocle. “So you are. Didn’t recognize you in that geddup.”

She pulled over a piece of paper and handed it over. “Just send this to my sister, and use the Rat and put it on Nati’s tab.”

“The Rat, eh?” he asked, “Right then... RAT! GET YOUR ASS OUT HERE, LAD!”

The door opened and a boy, probably not much older than twelve stepped out. He was short and skinny, dressed in dirty clothing. His face was narrow and long, with a large nose, even larger ears, and a prominent pair of buck teeth.

He really did look like a rat.

“Yeah boss?”

The old man jotted something down on the back of the letter and held it out. The Rat look it, looked down, and ran off without comment.

“Anything else you need?” he asked.

Seth glanced at Tesha who shrugged. “Not really.”

“Then I’d like to say it was nice doing business with you, we hope to see you again in the future, and get out.”

Seth snorted, and as they left, he asked Tesha. “So why that rat kid?”

“He’s fast. Really fast. She’ll be there waiting for us.”

“Fair enough.”

“So lets go!”

With Tesha leading the way, the two quickly cut through the town, quickly finding their way up a large set of spiral steps that were literally carved into the rock. Once they reached the top they entered into the next level. Seth found it to be an enviroment that while just as loud and chaotic as the one below, had a whole different type of bustle. Below there’d been toil in the air, noise and smoke, the activity of work being done. Up here it was more like a vast shopping mall. It was the chaos of a thousand merchants making as many trades all at once.

Everything was for sale. There were shops everywhere selling weapons, potions, food and drink, even companionship if the scantily clad women dressed in far too little near the rickety shack was anything of an indication.

Tesha smiled and looked over. “I love this town.”

Seth nodded. “Busier than I thought.”

“Skid’s located on a LayLine nexus and on a tributary of the Mortus river. In fact if you follow one of the branches long enough, you’ll make it to our place. Lots of homesteaders and minor groups about here too. Pretty much the economic hub of the region. It’s the closest thing to somewhere we have up here in the middle of nowhere.”

Seth nodded. Local hub. “Get fought over a lot?”

“Yeah, big gangs are always looking to take over.”

“How about the Keepers?”

She snorted. “They all want it, but none of them are willing to let the others have it. So as long as they’re stuck dicking about with each other, they’re no threat.”

She paused in front of a shabby little place with a sign that said ‘Rathang’s Social Club’ hanging crooked over a pair of saloon style doors.

Like most of the buildings here about, it was an opened topped building, with simple walls of stone and wood providing a measure of privacy for the occupants, but no roof. There were exceptions of course but they tended to be smaller structures or multi-storied.”

This place though, looked especially crude, seemingly thrown together, riddled with nails, and sloped mortar until it stuck.

“Why doesn’t anything around here have a roof?” Seth asked.

She smirked “No weather underground. Unless you’re looking for privacy or security, there’s really no point.”

“Ah,” he replied as he walked to the doorway.

Guarding it was a burly half orc with a rather impressive axe. If it wasn’t for his tusks, he probably could have passed for a large, ugly, hairy heavy set man with a flat nose and thick brow. Either way though, he was huge and mean looking.

He took one look at Seth and growled slightly before Tesha cut him off with a “Hi, Theg!”

The man smiled, showing off his impressive set of teeth. “Hey Tesh.”

“Big Sis in?”

He nodded and then spoke in a deep, foreboding voice that could have earned him many a job as a film anouncer. “Yeah. She doesn’t look too pleased though.”

Tesha blinked. “She can look pleased?”

He chuckled. It sounded reminiscent of an idling diesel engine. “Point. Best not keepe her waiting.”

Seth was even less impressed with the inside than the out. The chairs were made from barrels, the tables were large, roughly hewn planks, and the bar seemed to be made of rough stone slabs hitting on other roughly hewn stone slabs. It was quite the ramshackle affair.

Tesha visibly tensed as they entered, and Seth quickly saw the reason why. Sitting in the back, on a table that overlooked the entrance was a young, beautiful woman with a rather sour look on her face.

Tesha slowly, and reluctantly led them over, catching a chilly glare from the blue eyed young woman.

Seth looked over her for a moment and simply felt confused. This woman was human. Her figure was rather full, with just enough curves to hold the eyes, and while he hadn’t seen too many elves, he doubted you’d find many with a rack like that. Then there was her face. Her blue eyes were an oddity in the underworld for sure, and her face while still striking, was actually soft and rounded, rather than angular and sharp. There was a resembulate for sure, but he didn’t look the elf at all.

“Sit down,” she said curtly.

Tesha did immediately and after a moment’s thought, Seth joined her.

“Um, hi sis... I...”

The woman sighed and rubbed her forehead. “Don’t give me any excuses, Tesha, I read it in your message... and...” she looked at Seth. “There a problem?”

“Um. No. Just wondering how you two are sisters.”

The woman chuckled. “We get that a lot,” she the looked at Tesha, “And take those ridiclious things off.”

Tesha sighed and reached up to her ears. With a small tug, they came loose in her hands.

Seth gaped in surprise as he withdrew the two prosthetics. Underneath her ears were still pointed but not nearly as long.

“You’re a half-elf,” he said in shock. “Why didn’t you tell me?”

“Sis told me to tell no one,” She replied.

“So why the show?”

“Dark Elves don’t like half-breeds,” she replied, a scowl on her face.

Seth blinked again, “Then why work for one?”

“Because I needed someone who could pass,” Nati replied.

Seth scowled. “You were a spy.”

Nati snorted, “Took you this long to figure it out?”

Seth looked over. “Well that does explain how a half-elf could have a hu...”

Nati smirked and flipped her hair, exposing a pair of pointed ears.

“Half-elf sister...” he said with much less surety, with the smirk remaining on Nati’s face.

He sighed. “Well, that explains how you’re her big sister...”

“Common misconception,” Nati cut in, “Elves and Half-Elves mature at about the same rate as a human.”

He blinked. “Oh. Learn something new every day.”

“Honestly though, Tesha says good things about you, but I’m not too impressed so far. So, how about you explain what the hell is going on then? I have her half of the story already and I’d like to hear yours.”

[x] Tell her your story.

Since Tesha was already present during our conference with Gnarl and Mentor before we went to meet Yoda (she tried to spy and served as eyecandy), she knows that we're not from this world, and chances are she already told her sister, or would at some point in the future. So, I don't see a reason to hold back.

Probably include the reasoning in our explanation/story, though, or she might think we're being too trustworthy.

I'd say to do a bit of give & take. Explain, get info, and so such. Fair and all while not being a total pushover about it. Not explain everything all at once. Just at least for the first bit or so then transition into full explanation first before hearing the rest? *shrugs*

Fair enough. Not sure how to best go about it, though. Ie, whether we'd start with the biggest revelation/confirmation ("Yeah, I'm originally from another world.") in return for some informations from her and then go in a back-and-forth.

Thanks. I'd like to get as many people to migrate over as possible.

I'd like to make this a good site for RPing. I won't allow blatant porn but am actually willing to work with GMs and have a functional dice roller.

If someone wanted to say, run a full table top game I'd even be willing to create a sub-forum where they have limited mod control.

Start with something small, then something medium or large, depending on how Seth gauges the worth/etc. of the information he gets in turn.

Basically we start it first, so we give something of value to kick start it. Then escalate the value on our end... at minimum, to match and then some of the information she gives in turn. Well, Seth's perception of it anyhow.

I suggest slipping in the revelation/confirmation that we're originally from another world... casually while finishing up/transitioning to another explanation.

Just checking, what do you count specifically as 'blatant porn'. I mean like... stuff that's strictly and only porn, or... stuff that works/integrates it in but not to the point it overwhelms the rest of it? (This is just for clarification. I don't have anything in mind that should run into that issue.)

I'll/I'm considering rebooting my quest(s) over on here. Mulling over which one to reboot or start up first.

I'd like to make this a good site for RPing. I won't allow blatant porn but am actually willing to work with GMs and have a functional dice roller.

If someone wanted to say, run a full table top game I'd even be willing to create a sub-forum where they have limited mod control.

No blatant and graphic sexual content.

Basically you can say people are performing the act, but you can't go into fine detail about the act itself. In essence, nothing worse than you could see in the movies (and not the Skinemax films). Start to fade to black somewhere around second base and you'll probably be just peachy, and as long as you don't make a habit of it, I'll tell you if you're going too far.

Home Plate is not to be described in any fine detail outside of locked forums that require special group membership to enter, and at the moment, there are none.

And remember, it never hurts to ask.

Informed EagleBlue, yesterday, who... said he'd come on over today or so.

Ah, I see.

Hm... *notes we don't have a chatbox* Oh well.

Meh, I think I'll just reboot Bearer Quest over on here.

Problem is that we know Tesha already told Nati her "part" of the story. Considering that taking out Jevrin's slavers was pretty much our first major act, and anything before was pretty much exploring the secret dungeon with the heart, then meeting and shacking up with Serena, followed by our meeting/deal with Gnarl, there's not all that much we could really tell her.
Chances are there might be some holes in Tesha's story since she wasn't always present, but the main point - us being from a different world - is probably already known, so I don't think it'd be wrong to start with that. She said she wasn't impressed by us so far, but explaining that we've been at this for just a few weeks could excuse some of our blunders or behaviour that might otherwise seem incredibly stupid to her.

On the other hand, admitting that could also be seen as a major weakness for her to exploit since it could be seen as more or less admitting that we're dependant on her and other locals for our information. Her sister being our minion might counteract this possibility, though, since they do seem to care about each other, and while Nati seems willing to let ask her sister to take risks, I'm not sure how far that streak of ruthlessness would go.

We can probably bank on the end that we care about our minions. Sure we're a Keeper, but at least we don't try to throw our minions' lives away like water or the like. We're quite generous and lenient... to a point of course. That should help tide over the issue of us being a Keeper and Tesha working for us.

And technically we do have a tack record to back up our point that yes, we are being quite very truthful about it.

I'd say just tell her the whole story. It'll come out sooner or later though if we tell her our story we request that she do the same.

I vote for a full story, as well as telling her about some of the things we can help kickstart creation of. Guns are a major gamechanger, and if we get them simple enough, even Goblins will be able to use basic ones if given lots of training. The smartest of them, at least.

everyone seems to be running the same general story here... I'd like to wait for a couple more players to migrate. Feel free to recruit, and please sub the thread...

But I'll get started on the next reply for tomorrow or maybe Tuesday.

Maybe make the question less "how much do we tell her" and more "how do we tell her/handle this"? Ie, tell everything at once, trade small pieces of information from us for some of hers, etc?
