Storekeeper Quest
Kerethia is an overall fairly average fantasy-world and currently rather peaceful, though monster-infested dungeons, lairs and ruins attest to the fact that this wasn’t always the case. Numerous adventurers venture forth into such locations searching for treasure, fame, glory, or any other number of reasons.
You... are not one of them. Instead, you own and run a small store, and you can no doubt count a number of such adventurers amongst your customers.
<< Character Choices >>
What is your gender?
[] Male
[] Female
What race are you part of?
[] Dwarf
[] Elf
[] Human
[] Orc
[] Chimera (type?)
GM-Note: The choice of gender and race is mostly cosmetic. Elves, Dwarves and Humans look pretty much like they do in all other fantasy-settings. Orcs look like very tall humans with olive-green skin and more pronounced canines. Humans are noted for their physical endurance, elves for their agility but lack in strength, orcs for their strength but lack in endurance, and dwarves for their mental endurance but lack in agility.
Chimeras are the result of experiments with life-altering magic to fuse animals into the existing humanoid species for a variety of purposes. The extent of their animal-like features can go from the typical anime-esque girl with cat-ears and -tails, to full-blown animal-people like TES’ Argonians or Khajit.
Focus:
[] Alchemy
[] Blacksmithing
[] General Goods
[] Magic
[] Mechanic
Starting Location:
[] A small, rural village out of the way, but with a number of adventuring hot-spots nearby
[] A decent-sized trading-town, with a number of interjecting trade routes and frequent travellers
[] A large port-city with goods and people from nearly all over the continent
GM-Note: The shops’ specializations should be fairly self-explaining, though I’m open to questions if there’s something unclear. Note that the shop’s specialization in most cases also includes some crafting-knowledge; as an alchemist you can brew potions, as a blacksmith craft various items including weapons and armor, as the owner of a magic shop you can enchant items or create (but not necessarily cast) spells, etc.
The starting location has an impact on how difficult things may be, though while there's some progressive increase in difficulty, it’s not as simple as an easy - normal - hard divide.
Starting in a small village means you have no competition and easy access to loot from adventurers, but certain raw materials might be more difficult to get, and it’s unlikely you’d receive any big orders.
In the city you’d have a lot of competition and only rarely will adventurers sell their loot there, but it's also easy to access almost all kinds of resources, and it’s likelier for you to get big orders.
The town would be somewhere in the middle in almost all regards.
Skills:
[] Pick three. The same skill can be picked multiple times.
GM-Note: I’ll handle skills fairly free-form, so no big list. Instead, you get to make your own suggestion. As a general guideline, though, the skills should be related to your shop, and they should neither be too specific nor too general. If you pick a skill multiple times it increases the bonus you get from it, though obviously at the cost of versatility.
As an example; for a blacksmith-shop, “Weapons” would be too general, while “Claymores” or “Daggers” would be too specific. If in doubt, ask please.
=====
Well, my first attempt at GM-ing a quest. As a caveat, this is meant to be a sandbox-game and as such doesn't have a big overarching plot, though I might bring in minor ones later.

I'm seeing her as a bookish, mousy girl who is very much into the whole adventuring scene but kinda lacks the stamina and physical aptitude for the role of the adventuring type, even though she'd love to be one... instead she's placed herself in a position where she can help them out in their tasks and secretly hopes to eventually fall in love with a brave hero...
She reads lots and lots of novels...

Re: Storekeeper Quest
As a clarification; strictly speaking, there are no half-elves, -orcs, -dwarves, or the like. For simplicity, you always belong to one of the listed races.
You can, however, just pick one and note down some mixed ancestry - for example, an elf with one parent being human - in which case you'll obviously have some mixed features; a human with pointed ears, an elf with green-tinted skin, etc.

Nope. In terms of lifespan, or things like intellect or charisma or the like, all of the races are on an equal footing.Karogas wrote:So the Races don't affect lifespans then?

Because dwarfs are awesome and we don't nearly have enough games with dwarfs in them.
Also congratulations Kelenas on starting your own quest mate.

Re: Storekeeper Quest
Great. You guys are so fucking unoriginal
LETS PLAY DRUNKEN ANGRY BEARDED MIDGET #25783!
Only way you could get more fucking stereotypical is if you played a dark elf ranger with a troubled past who fights using two magical scimitars...
I'll be honest. I think a female would be more fun here. For one this thread lacks all the traditional reasons for a male PC. Lets be honest, we run men most of the time because its easier to get into thier heads and do big heroic shit and the whole harem potental... Shopkeepers aren't heroic and don't get harems.

I don't think this is the setting and shopkeeper isn't going to be able t afford slaves.
Re: Storekeeper Quest
There's no slaves, though you could certainly hire shop-assistants or the like. Though at least at the moment you don't need any.
In any case, the majority so far seems to be;
- Male
- Village
Race and shop-speciality are currently at a stalemate;
Human - Dwarf
Alchemy - Blacksmithing

Blacksmith. Seriously takes skill. Alchemy sounds more like following recipes.
And Dwarf, simply because a female dwarf would rock. Compromise Gender for Race.

If by "rock" you mean look about as sexy as a bolder then I'll agree.

Does my class in Chemistry count as me being a chemist?
And yes, boulder. All those sexy curves. Sweet.

No, it doesn't...
And fat, muscle bound midget. With a beard. Not hot.
Re: Storekeeper Quest
Well true dwarfs aren't hot, they are awesome and really Psycko where is this "BEARDED MIDGET #25783" hate coming from mate? As I for the life of me can't think of any quests that have dwarfs as the main focus that would get this kind of response from you. Or is it that you just what to play a hot chick here mate and if so isn't that more of the average here in a fantasy setting to have hot big breasted females selling the heroes cool toys?

Nice quest, Kelenas.
Let's do something more interesting: a dwarf who is an alchemist.
I can imagine what people are going to say: "But you're a dwarf! You should be a blacksmith!"

That isn't more interesting still. Dwarfs and alchemy aren't uncommon either.
General Store/etc. such... that would be actually an oddity.
A Human Alchemist is nicer... like KamiDori!. Because.

To be fair, Orcs and Chimeras would be more unique in at least one or two occupations than... the big three (races). >_>
