I don't mind you lampshading that kind of stuff. You want to make a joke, go ahead. But when you call it out, you put me on the spot. That makes my job harder and considering how much I'm already juggling with this damned storyline I do not need your help to make it more challenging. It's plenty bloody hard enough as is.Silver Sun 17 wrote:]OOC: Sorry, wasn't mocking you. i was implying that something in setting is fucking with me.

I follow the priest out of the cave frowning while my mind raced over the possibilities of the situation.

Ninja maids?
Hm... the sisters dissatisfied that I'm not paying enough attention to them? Or that the concubines are getting the same amount of attention even though they're lower-ranked than the handmaidens? They come. The Laima and Arachne look attentive. the Handmaidens are getting a bit tetchy but are obedient.
"Of course. I should have mentioned this at the start, but you can talk privately to me about this; I just didn't want to have to repeat the same offer multiple times."They look at the other two and the younger speaks. "Master, we would like to speak about that in private if you would allow us.."
"Mh, probably should've guessed or at least considered something like that."The Lamia nods. "That is the traditional way, sire. When one gives their True Name in service they will traditionally request a boon which the Emperor will swear to see enforced in return."
"Very well," I smile at her.She pauses. "At the moment, I have no great aspirations but to continue my training, live well, and being honor to my family. All of which are easily done as your concubine."
"Not a problem, though I'll talk with my handmaidens first."The Arachne looks over. "I'll give you my name, but we need to talk about the details in private."
"I would like to know them, yes. As for your pet names..." I look at each of them in turn."It's traditional for the Emperor to come up with pet names for his servants. Would you like our personal nicknames?"
"Kita" (the Elder Handmaiden)
"Sofi" (the Younger Handmaiden)
"Lia" (the Lamia Concubine)
"Asna" (the Arachne Concubine)
"I hope you like them?"
True, or they might dislike, but still feel pressured to use them. I'd rather not take any chances. They could request not to use the names...
Alright, the competition is still off-limits until I've talked with the High Priest. What about my transformation, then? Any details they can tell me about that? They're still magically restricted from saying many of the fine details. They're magically sworn to secrecy to keep some fool from blabbing what it consists of to the world. The actual nature of the contest is secret. Get the High Priest to allow them to speak to you and they'll happily tell you everything.
"No need to give me such a sales pitch; I'm quite happy with my choice of handmaidens," I tell them with a chuckle before giving both of them a deep kiss. The younger sister grins. "As your handmaidens we are best suited to guard your person, command your armies, and speak for you when you need envoys as we are experts in the court..." she starts to flush.
The elder puts a hand on her shoulder. "Calm yourself little sister, but you are right... Why you could almost say we're good at almost everything..."
(OOC: Everyone's picking on my handmaidens. :P)The Lamia scowls a bit. "I have a much more... realistic..." she gets a glare. "Grasp on my skill set. I'm a mage of middling power and have reasonable bureaucratic and library experience along with basic ritual knowledge. I believe I would serve you best in a cleric role. I have no need for grandiose power and authority. I am happier behind the scenes and content in the knowledge that I help make everything possible."
The Spider grins. "The details of what I want to be are for your ears only, sire... but for the moment I could serve as a security expert... those two hotheads..."
*GLARE*
"Might guard your body, but the best way to keep you safe is to make it so they never get within striking distance."
OR MAGIC!NINJA MAID!
Still doesn't trike me as the most efficient way to go about it, but I guess that shouldn't really surprise me anymore. It's why they're are two of them and its mostly as an in the field thing.
"Then I'll leave that to you.""Of course, master..." you can see their gears going.
"Easy," I tell them with a chuckle. "It's good to see you're eager, but I'd like to speak with the General anyway, as from my understanding he's the highest-ranking purely military officer left. I'll bring the matter up with him then; no reason to step on any toes so early."Your will be done!"
Until then, though, you two could start by making a list of officers and soldiers you know, of all ranks, that would be suited for this."
"Alright, what am I looking at?" I ask curious."Yeah, about that..."
She pulls out a scroll...
"This was my plan B if I failed and didn't die. I was going to try and trade this for protection..."
"I take it I struck a cord there somehwere?" I grin. Her smile is utterly evil. "Yeah, about that... lets talk about that when we do my name oath, okay?"
Basically evil laughter time...
"Sorry, m'lord... its just..."
She blushes.

"I think we'll be keeping to coins..." she says without much inflection.Brian Boru wrote:"Maybe it is, and things can certainly go horribly wrong, but things have gone this way for so long I highly doubt it'll change anytime soon. As for overprinting..." I mention to the her the horror story about what happened to Germany between the World Wars and the banknote blocks children would use for toys....then a vague mention of what that nation did later when someone sparked that anger into an inferno.
As for the mention of Nazis it doesn't seem to get much effect that you can say.
"Oh, they'll mostly behave themselves if only because we'll kill anyone who causes too much trouble."Seeing as I got most of the complaints during the feast I nod, "Sounds simple enough in theory though I'm sure I'll have to be walking on eggshells to keep things from turning into a grand melee, correct if I'm wrong of course."
Seems to be the curse of the demon world really. First years of a Demon Emperor's reign are spent getting things back to how they left it...As for the other I also agree, getting back to status quo should help stabilize things and I am honest eager to see what can be done to get back what was lost.
Yes, she shows you...If I can't find anything else to discuss with her since she isn't interested in opening up to personal matters, I then ask her if she would like to give me a tour of the garden after the explanation about the brain-eater, I'm morbidly curious about the others. I offer her my arm (IF THAT'S CULTURALLY DONE!) then we take a walk through the place. After the walk and it's relatively late, we'll head for the exit and I say, "Well this was very enjoyable evening Princess I hope we can do this soon. Shall I escort you back to your quarters before I head to mine?"
And she has no problem with you escorting her to her wing.
Righto. So, deal...Either way I then head to my own and I then go to deal with my Handmaidens and concubines.
"We thought they'd tell you..."Rieverre wrote:Aaaaand here's the other shoe.
"Pray, how would I _know_ this tradition, exactly? You might have informed me beforehand. Asked for a moment in private. It's not as though I wouldn't have given it to you," I say frankly. "This entire situation is a bit new and outside of my scope of experience, for obvious reasons."
"Yes, though its not like we've been slipped a love potion or anything."I sigh and pinch the bridge of my nose.
"There's an emotional component to the binding as well, isn't there?"
Red Oni are passionate, even for demons! They're a lot more ... passionate about this than they would be otherwise, I think, even with Demons being naturally invested in the emotional end of the personality pool.
Zzzzzzzz....In that case, I'll let her veg. She's been busy since she got back in control of herself, she's earned this.
Printing presses...Huh. Examine the two that look to be printed in more detail. Ask the sisters and/or the Lamia once she's back about printing, describing the process in simple terms if need be.
It's something out of date. What info are you looking for it in?Ooooh. Now those are going to be useful in a number of ways. ^^ I should probably skim the recent history parts of the history book first,
IT seems that this Handmaiden really didn't like her Emperor much. She was loyal and did her job, but he always neglected her in favor of his concubines and first handmaiden. She was a bit too frumpy personality wise for him. He was rather flighty while she was an extremely no nonsense personality, and very focused and task oriented. She also disagreed stongly with a number of his policies which she saw as excessive beyond the limits of necessity.and definitely start in-depth reading with the last one. Not only will it likely have hints as to how that Emperor used his power, it's written from the Handmaiden's perspective. That's as close to a cheat-sheet on this whole relationship as I'm going to get.

Hm... so only their True Names are what we'd consider 'names', like 'George', 'Alexandra', 'Jenny' and the like? While formal/official names are more like titles or positions, and private nicknames describing some physical, mental or social quality? What do they mean? Demon nicknames tend to be descriptive, if only because they are fearful of a nickname ascribing attributes.
Might have to revise my ideas based on the new informations about demonic naming conventions.Well, you're going to see.
Well, and obviously more stamina, in *ALL* senses of the word. Pretty sure I wouldn't have been able to keep up a day-long marathon-orgy as a human. As far as they know you're a demon now.
Faster, stronger, tougher, magically powerful... almost impossible to kill with anything except magical weapons or effects...
Also, effectively immortal now, unless killed by some hero or assassin?
I might make it a game to try and see if I can catch them in the act.MAGIC NINJA MAID!
Considering what I've seen/heard of the first emperor so far, I'd expect something similar to that. Only made to be particularly uncomfortable, and then assigned to one of his subordinates at the time.Google the "Woolsack" for examples of silly traditions.
"Very good. Keep my informed, but otherwise I'll leave it in your hands.""We will begin recruitment soon..."
"I inferred as much during the breakfast," I reply seriously. "How many are left, aside from you two and the General?""We lost a number of important leaders in the war..."
"Alright, that's more than a bit disconcerting," I admit with raised eyebrows. "And something I'm very much interested in avoiding. So, I would definitely like to have you involved in my protection.""All the ways I could sneak in her and kill you!" she says with far too much cheer.
"I look forward to talking with you about it, then," I smirk."Yes, master..."
Evil Grin...
Once both Lamia and Arachne have left, I turn my attention fully to the two sisters, pulling them on my lap and giving both a deep and long kiss.
"Now then," I start, while gently playing with their hair and caressing their bare skin, "what did you want to talk privately with me about?"

Yep. He was pretty much your stereotypical megalomaniac evil overlord...Considering what I've seen/heard of the first emperor so far, I'd expect something similar to that. Only made to be particularly uncomfortable, and then assigned to one of his subordinates at the time.
Even now the demons respect him for his power but they're frankly glad he died... they just wish he'd been maybe a bit more forward looking when it comes to the mechanics of his magical throne...
Right!"Very good. Keep my informed, but otherwise I'll leave it in your hands."
A number, but the previous Emperor lead many of the best. Several clan heads were lost... including the head of the Red Oni clan, sadly."I inferred as much during the breakfast," I reply seriously. "How many are left, aside from you two and the General?"
Their uncle was a skilled warrior.
"Of course," she gives the sisters a smug look."Alright, that's more than a bit disconcerting," I admit with raised eyebrows. "And something I'm very much interested in avoiding. So, I would definitely like to have you involved in my protection."

Handmaidens: The Red Oni Sisters
-Kasho: Two horned Red Oni. Elder Handmaiden.

Harem:
Lamia Concubine: Archives clerk with some magical aptitude.
Arachne Concubine: Assassin and bane of food everywhere.
Contacts:

Don't worry, demons are highly resistant.Rieverre wrote:"... those actually exist here? What am I saying, of course they exist. Life would be making it too easy for me if they didn't."
Much like their life as it was, but with higher authority and more sex.More to the point, what did they imagine their life would be like after winning the trial?
They go into the details. It seems the rank is publicly idealzied.
THey do get pumped up at times, but on the whole they're well klnown for thier focus and self control. It's a mark of pride! For all that, the sisters have shown remarkable restraint.
Yes^2.Gotcha. That's one item off the list. While I'm asking ... what about black powder and the steam engine?
You'd have to ask the priest. As usual, mentions of my predecessors, with a particular interest in those who were summoned. I want to try and pin down the notable ones among those - hell, I'll ask the Handmaidens as well, they should know at least something about that - on the off-chance that one left behind an instruction manual or journal of some kind.
They do point out one thing... this Handmaiden is somewhat famous and is may actually still be alive. With her emperor dead she was freed from the binding.
I blink. Then reread that. Then point the relevant bits out to my own Handmaidens.
She's a Fallen Angel. The reason they didn't get along was because while she's no longer welcome among her kind, she's still an orderly being while that emperor was known for being extremely flighty, even by demon standards.
Frankly, she was defacto demon emperor until he was assassinated. It was a strange time for the underworld. Thankfully he had a younger brother.
You could ask her."Either the Lamia was extremely lucky in her choice, or she sent this one along quite deliberately."
They're heard of her, as she's a bit of a historical curiosity. As the material is of relevance to our current situation, even if I'm hoping I am not yet That Guy, I invite the sisters to read through it with me.
"Shut up and walk!" the princess snaps.Silver Sun 17 wrote:"previous ruler? would explain the size of the painting and the styling of the armor." I mutter as i study the painting for a moment.
Yes."the Reason you summoned me is connected to why the Guards are so on edge isn't it? their all worried and likely for good reason..."
Yep. After afew minutes you're lead to a giant throne room.
On the throne is sitting a rather smug looking individual...
"Oh, hello cousin..."
The girl sneers in rage.
"How dare you..."
"How dare I what? Sit on your daddy's throne. Or is it your throne... oh wait, that's right, you can't inherit can you... after all, you're a woman and thus only good for that lukewarm hole between your thighs, right?"
With a roar of rage the girl flairs in dark power.
"Princess! NO!" the Priest exclaims.
She fires a massive blast of Black and Violet fire at the throne. It strikes against a massive shield and then purple lightening rebounds, consuming her in power as she screams in agony.
She falls to her kneels, painting...
"Oh, Ruby, you were always so easy to get all wound up..."
The priest steps forward and looks at the man on the throne.
"Just because you are of Royal Blood, doesn't mean you are King! You have no right to sit on that throne!"
Then waves his hand and he's violently ejected.
As in literally thrown off the throne to crash into the floor infront of it.
"Heh... worth it!"

She's from Kamidori Alchemy Meister. A bonus character you can recruit after playing through the game at least once; Anastasia.
So, my handmaidens and I probably spend the rest of the day having sex in various different and mind-blowing ways, while using the breaks in-between bouts to talk about ourselves, our pasts, our interests, and so on, until we're feeling frisky again, then repeating the whole thing.
Next morning, if the Demon Maid again comes to wake me, I'll talk with my handmaidens about inviting her to join us for a bit of carefree, no-strings-attached sex, to spice things up, before taking another bath and then seeing if there's any agenda for the day already laid out, like the breakfast.
If there isn't, task my Lamia Concubine with researching, and then setting up a summary, about how the Demon Realm's government works. Ie, whether there are fixed minister-posts, or some kind of senate/assembly, and so on. Best get an idea of how things work, and who I should talk to, as quickly as possible.
Then, seek out Arachne, so I can talk with her about her Boon.
In addition to that, I'll also want to talk with the Orc General and the Duke, later in the day, if that can be arranged.
And if there is any large gap in time, where I got an hour or two of free time, see about going somewhere nice with my handmaidens, or doing something we enjoy (not necessarily sex ). Otherwise keep getting to know them.

The Grand Clan meeting, but instead I'll go with martial and Magic training, the later being more "HOW NOT TO BLOW MYSELF TO KINGDOM-COME TRAINING!" than anything else.Oi, which meeting is that again?
hard to keep track of everyone

Fair enough.Rieverre wrote:I got that impression, yes, if only to avoid being an easy target and laughingstock. And I certainly intend to learn. But whether or not I'll be a very martial Demon Emperor, I'm not sure.
The too close for comfort kind. What type of look? The 'he has a point' type of look or the 'he's being an idiot' type of look?
"Oh."marry the ...
"Well, that appears to be another thing they'd conveniently forgotten to mention. And so, the reasoning behind her appearing to want my guts for garters becomes increasingly clear."
(I think this is the first time, ICly, it's been mentioned)
"Woops..."
"Maybe we shouldn't have been the first to tell you..."
"It's a long story."
If cast as a ritual its a reasonably simple spell. Probably isn't as fast on the whole as concrete but there's something to be said about the roads being made of solid slabs of granite...The question being, how efficient are those? Then, how efficient they are for the population we're talking about.
Physics and magic have a relationship something like this...Damn magic bullshit.
"Well, you're lucky day then because you technically have a fleet."... there's a moment where I just stop.
"Always wanted one of those. An airship, not a dwarf, I mean."
"Of course."Come to think of it, does that mean other peoples have their own takes on airships?
It turns out theirs are literally flying ships.
Okay."I think I need to read more about this is learn from the mistakes someone has already made before me," I tell them. Well, that and get the Lamia something nice for picking this particular journal.
They don't comment.
Dude, this is the Emperor's WING. Technically this entire TOWER is the Emperor's suite.Huh. I'd have thought that, given the importance and particularities of their position, they'd have rooms directly off the Emperor's suite. For convenience and practicality's sake if nothing else. Or will we eventually be able to use the binding to communicate, making immediate proximity secondary?
And their rooms aren't as much rooms as a pair of large personal suites...
Yeah. Though you'll need to tell GM what you're lookign for.... well, if there's still enough of the day/evening left after bedroom shenanigans, I do believe this calls for some exploration. I mean, I could just rely on servants to lead me places, but that would get old quickly.
So yeah, summon maid, have her give us the tour.
"You summoned, master..."
She's there kneeling when you turn your head...
Fucking ninja maids.
Huh. How convenient... looks useful... will have to look.Kelenas wrote:She is, actually; the picture just doesn't include the bat wings, and unfortunately it's the only linkable I found, though you might have better luck than me.
She's from Kamidori Alchemy Meister. A bonus character you can recruit after playing through the game at least once; Anastasia.
Heh.Well, not like my job wasn't already difficult; a bit more probably won't matter.
BEcause he was a psychotic mage who effectively used magic to enslave an entire realm and then exterminated as many of those who didn't submit to his will as possible? How come?
Have any personal questions? And you can ssume that you hear everything mentioned about them int he other posts as well. It's pretty much a dictatorship. the only constant is the fedual relationship between the clans and emperor. The rest is entirely up to the whim of the emperor. With magic even the mortal realm is accessible.

Re: You are the Demon King...
I can definitely recommend it. It's a fairly good and interesting game, though somewhat difficult to get to run, since you need to set your OS to japanese for it to work without crashing, even after applying the english translation patch. If you got trouble finding it, gimme a ping on Skype and I see what I can do to help.Psyckosama wrote:Huh. How convenient... looks useful... will have to look.
Ah, misunderstanding, then; I'd somehow gotten the impression that we were talking about the Oni sisters' uncle/father, the one that got killed, rather than the first emperor.BEcause he was a psychotic mage who effectively used magic to enslave an entire realm and then exterminated as many of those who didn't submit to his will as possible?
Problem is that I usually avoid reading other's posts, to avoid spoilerizing myself and getting influenced.Have any personal questions? And you can ssume that you hear everything mentioned about them int he other posts as well. Saves time.
Since they're based on Scanty and Kneesocks, I suppose they use conjured or otherwise magically created weapons (scythes/axes in case of Kneesocks/Haisoksu, guns/crossbows in case of Scanty/Kaisho)?
Aside from that, I'm interested in any hobbies they might have or what they otherwise enjoy doing when they're not working, and whether they have any relatives, friends or acquaintances they'd like to stay in contact with.
Below.Hmmm... d100?
Hm, okay. So, what about the leftovers from the previous emperor/administration? Or are the ones I was already introduced to all that's left already? It's pretty much a dictatorship. the only constant is the fedual relationship between the clans and emperor. The rest is entirely up to the whim of the emperor. One of the reasons stablizing new things is so hard... that said demons don't mind. If anything it keeps things from getting boring.
Ah, so that's the reason she went all evil laughter and grinning when I mentioned my plans/ideas for her. What she wants is to be recognized as the Spider Queen and have her title and rank backed with imperial authority... and to be given the resources needed to secure it...
Ironically, it also makes the original nickname I'd though of for her all the more weirdly appropriate.
Yeah, I'd have no problem supporting her like that for her Boon. However, I'd like to hear what her plans for the Arachne species are once she's actually secured her position.
Let's start with the General, then.easily
Depends on whether they have any preferences. I'd be interested in visiting some of the Demon Realm's landmarks. Getting a view of the imperial capital, visit the local Mt. Doom expy, that sort of thing. What kind of place would you like to go to?
With magic even the mortal realm is accessible.
Though I'm definitely filing away the fact that visiting the mortal realm isn't a problem for later. Maybe have a picnic in the mountains, or spend some time chilling out on a tropical island.

First thing, armed combat.
Style?
One handed hammer+shield or One handed Axe+Shield.
Combat style I wanna learn, tough durable, not the fastest but able to weather the worst blows, be relentless, and hit light a hammer.
