Vargr Skarin

Gear: The usual

Loot: all of 4 silver's worth to his name

Mort sighs and turns and explains to his father what happened at that castle where you first spotted him.  His...dalliance with his host's daughter, his flight, his running into you, his race with you, the point where you killed seven men with your bare hands, and your calm ride since then.

Mort's father's face turn's darker and darker until he looks like a thunderstorm about to break.  Then he starts breathing heavily under his nose and he turns to you for a moment and in a short clipped tone says, "Leave. Now."

If you do the moment you close the door, you're nearly knocked off your feet from the sound of the elder Bretonnian ripping into his son verbally.  It is a long and epic verbal beat down of the young man's stupidity, lack of control, and talks about how the boy has the lust of a Slaneeshi cultist from Estalia!

It sounds like this might go of for a while.  Do you wish to go elsewhere until it's over?

... well, it's not as if Mort didn't have it coming.

I wait for a few minutes, committing the more inventive swearwords to mind - never know when some of those could come in handy - before deciding I might as well take in the sights. Supposed to be an impressive castle after all ... hmm ...

... this is probably a bad idea ...

Oh, who'm I kidding? I find/flag down a servant and ask for directions to the kitchens.

Once there ... hmm ... I'm going to need a pot, a pan, some eggs, flour, onions, either boiled and ground meat, cheese and potatoes (I'm not sure those have made it to the Old World), or sauerkraut, salt, pepper ... and so on.

Because, fuck it, it's been a while since I've eaten anything other than game and foraged fruits/vegetables and I want some nostalgia food so as to stop feeling so damn homesick. I'm making pierogi. Boiled, then pan-fried, probably on butter or bacon grease.

And if anyone has a problem with that I will ask again, politely, but insistently.

And a godawful huge viking can be very insistent just by standing somewhere.

I tell him truthfully, "I have a source in the North, that collects information that may be of interest to me, most of which concerns the doings of the Forces of Chaos in the North. And while I can say that I have verified the information with mine own eyes, I do indeed trust the source with my life and word. Archaon as he is known to me, was once a Templar of Sigmar. Who read a manuscript written by Necrodomo the Insane. And was driven mad. He burnt down his temple, killed his entire family, went North, and pledged himself entirely to the Fell Gods as a tool of destruction. And that was over a century ago according to rumor. Since then he has been collecting the Six Treasures of Chaos. For it is said that has all six will become the new Everchosen. And according to my source, he is about to claim the sixth one."

From there, I go on to explain to the Count what I know of the treasures, their history, and what possible powers that they may grant Archaon.

Well, that solves that problem. Since we are going to Marienburg anyways why not? Sounds like a fair deal. I'll leave the disposition of the pirate ship to the captain of the merchantman. Does Kyra agree? We can leave them at Marienburg then continue our task afterwards, we wont have to divert (much). And wont take much time.

Of course, I'll request the captain to impress upon the crew to keep their hands off the women. With the implied threat of me putting a beat down on anyone foolish enough to do so.

I guess now we just settle in for the voyage. Oh, and watch for any other pirates foolish enough to attack us.

Ingvar is more than a little surprised at you singling him out like that, but he comes to your side as you ask him. He then points out that as a battle commander the best among them is Ulf Skullcracker. A lean wild looking fellow armed with a heavy spear. He accepts the offer with decorum you wouldn't expect from a Norscan.
Good, it looks like Ingvar has chosen wisely again, as he seems to have a good head on his shoulders to go with his power. "Then let it be known now, that I make Ulf Skullcracker my battlemaster and may his spear pierce the hearts of any who may face his might in battle."

They take heed to this and several days later the clan leaders break up to head to their various homes
Good, this is a promising start. Now lets just hope the rest of the southern clans join us as nicely.

Indeed there is much to do. First off you'll need to expand your hall. Urist has been doing excellent work but he's only one dwarf and with the full authority and the wealth of the Bjornlings to offer you SHOULD be able to get something bigger that could act as your hall.
"Well it is true, that I will not be able to make my hall as it is my home for much longer. The coin that would be used for such would be better spent improving our people's arms and armor for now, then on a hall. As first we must weather the coming storm. Though if you truly believe that I will need a hall sooner the later my friend I'll handle it now then."

As for a banner, well considering Olric is sometimes known as the white wolf...
"That is a strong flag, and one that I would be proud to call my own for it gives respect to both our values and home at the same time. Truly you have do well for yourself with this idea and once we get back I want you to find the finest crafters we have to make this flag our own."

As you travel across the forests and hills back home, your band comes across a gigantic set of tracks. It seems that that Mammoth bull is somewhere in this area.
Ah now isn't this a good omen, for it looks like we will have a chance to bring a feast worthy of a king back to the people.

So then I'll have our best tracker lead us following it's tracks while we hunt this mammoth down. An then once we find it. I'll run up to and jump right up in front of it's skull before burying my fist and arming start into is brain and releasing a mighty shock through it to kill the beast in one blow. Then once it is finish I pick it up and continue on back with my men, ready to give feast to my people once we reach home and share with them the news of their new king.

You come to in the depths of a dark forest, looking around you see huge trees growing as far as the eye can see, the sound of birds can be heard as well as the rustling of small animals but as far as you can tell, you are completely alone. If you examine the ground a little harder, you think you can see a small game trail heading into the woods a few paces away from where you woke up.

Examination of the ground is... a bit a given, after all, knowing where others have headed would be a good starting point. And given the lack of anything else other than the woods... well, following the small game trail would be best for now. With that in mind, I set off with my Bow at the ready, just in case.

Huge ass parade with heads.  People wonder HOW you did it, but since no one in the expedition breathes a word of your strength the conjectures of how it was done range the spectrum from shockingly accurate to so insanely bizarre you bust a gut laughing, really army of giant attack chipmunks?

I'm awesome... Smile

Not that I ever say so outloud.

And they love you for it.

Leave it to someone who can kill with pathetic ease to understand how FRAGILE and VALUABLE human life really is

He's silent for a while then he draws his Runefang sword and places the point of it over the beast's heart.  They stare each other in the eye for a moment again then Boris says, "Not how I expected this to end is it?"

The beastman actually laughs then barks out, "No...not what think would happen..."

Then Boris drives the sword home and Khazrak stops twitching after a few minutes.

I smile at him. "It's over. Your victory is complete. While the Beastman menace will always exist, your people have not been safer for generations. I doubt the beastmen of the Drakwald will be able to recover from this shock for decades."

"OUTSIDE OF THE CITY!"

Thank you captain Obvious...

And yes. I do break the gear.

The question is... what now?

Well, besides playing in my money for a bit giggling... and maybe some feasting. I want to get my big money making adventures done before I'm announced.

So far my agenda is save the Dwarf-King's kin and talk to Valten.

NIIIIIICCCCCEEEE!!!

I think on that one for all of a minute before I spin around pick her up and kiss her, "How does that answer you."

She kisses you wildly and clamps her legs around your waist.

Now... on the way to Middenherim you and Cosmina end up sharing many a private room. The girl it seems is insatiable.

One of those nights you discover you're sharing the inn with a traveling merchant who'd probably be right happy to be separated with his goods for the right coin...

What do you do?

There are some REALLY foul ones towards the end.

Oh, who'm I kidding? I find/flag down a servant and ask for directions to the kitchens.

A mouse like serving girl is the first person you manage to come across and she nearly screams and faints when she see you.  But once she recovers she does eventually point you in the right direction.

Once there ... hmm ... I'm going to need a pot, a pan, some eggs, flour, onions, either boiled and ground meat, cheese and potatoes (I'm not sure those have made it to the Old World), or sauerkraut, salt, pepper ... and so on.

You manage to luck out with the supplies though you only get a small corner of the kitchen to work in.  The rest of the staff only allow you that much because you're a gigantic bare chested Norscan.

Once you've had that meal what do you do next?

She and the captain have no qualms with that and no one bothers the women for the rest of the trip.  Several weeks later, you reach the city of Marienburg, the richest city in the old world according to some and certainly one of the greatest trade centers in the world.

When you reach the dock you bid the captain farewell and escort your wards down the gangplank and to the docks and the city proper.  The lady of the Merchant house, one, von Gundard suggests coming with her to one of her family's warehouses in the city, most of the bosses know her by sight and she can contact her family so that a reward can be made for you.

Great and mighty men are usually in their experiences are raging assholes...you're a pleasant surprise.

I smile at him. "It's over. Your victory is complete. While the Beastman menace will always exist, your people have not been safer for generations. I doubt the beastmen of the Drakwald will be able to recover from this shock for decades."

"Yes...yes indeed."  He cleans his sword and then asks you to kneel.

Once you do he then taps your shoulders with his sword while saying, "I Boris Todbringer, Graf of Middenheim and Elector Count of Middenland, in the name of Ulric, declare that  (insert name) shall be raised to that of the peerage and will be given all of the privileges and responsibilities that rank entails.  Rise a noble man of my court."

"Well now all we need to do is the matter of the bounty on the Beastmen heads as well as this one in particular."  He points to Khazrak's still oozing corpse.

All calculated the total reward for killing Khazrak and his herd comes to 20,000gc an unimaginable amount of wealth.  Though he does admit the second 10,000 might have to come in parts.

Thank you captain Obvious...

Nice.

Now... on the way to Middenherim you and Cosmina end up sharing many a private room. The girl it seems is insatiable.

And I rise to the occasion.  Besides having 'fun' I do try to get to learn a little more about her.  I don't pry into her past unless she does so first but I do ask about her likes, dislikes, or hobbies.  I tell her that, odd as it might be I love reading.  One of my favorite was a dog-ear copy of "My Travels with Gotrek" by Felix Jaeger.  It had been among the loot from a raid my elder kin had been on and no one else wanted it.  But I took it, and taught myself to read it and Reikspiel in general.  I lost it during a storm but it was that book that convinced me to decide to wander like I did AND what tempted me to check the tomb where I found the ax and shield.  I hope I can find another copy of the book someday.

One of those nights you discover you're sharing the inn with a traveling merchant who'd probably be right happy to be separated with his goods for the right coin...

What do you do?

What do you think I ask Cosmina to come with me and I ask the man what he has to sell if there is something that Cosmina seems to want then I'll buy it so long as the price isn't something obscene.

I'll also take a look myself for something that sparks my interest.

She and the captain have no qualms with that and no one bothers the women for the rest of the trip.  Several weeks later, you reach the city of Marienburg, the richest city in the old world according to some and certainly one of the greatest trade centers in the world.

Good, no more trouble on the voyage. What happened to that pirate ship anyways? Did the transport crew scuttle it?

When you reach the dock you bid the captain farewell and escort your wards down the gangplank and to the docks and the city proper.  The lady of the Merchant house, one, von Gundard suggests coming with her to one of her family's warehouses in the city, most of the bosses know her by sight and she can contact her family so that a reward can be made for you.

Well, we are here now, so might as well escort the lady and the other wards to those warehouses, wouldn't want them to be harmed by criminals that are probably rife in the port and surrounding areas after all the trouble I went through getting them off that pirate ship.

Anyways, I'll accompany them to the warehouses the lady spoke of. My presence should ward off those whom would prey on the weak. But just in case, I'll keep my eyes and ears open for any threats.

Great and mighty men are usually in their experiences are raging assholes...you're a pleasant surprise.

"I find most of that arises from a sense of detachment. They do not understand, so they lack empathy Me, I have an entirely different problem. I live in a world made of glass. I must always take constant care not to break something, to break someone. To never allow myself to lose control even for an instant, or someone could die. Most people naturally start to see that which is fragile as that which is valuable. To me, everything is fragile, everyone is valuable. After a lifetime of this... it's in my very nature to protect others because I understand more than anyone who delicate, how precious, how fleeting life really is... "

I pause. "While I may seem mercenary, understand that I value life infinity more than gold. Even the life of a single begger is worth more than a mountain made of gold, because there willalwa One is valuable, the other is literally beyond price. What I like is what you can do with Gold. There are things you can do with Gold that can't be done with pure physical power. Gold brings you a different form of power and with power you can protect, you can teach, and you can show people there is a better way."

"Yes...yes indeed."  He cleans his sword and then asks you to kneel.

I do so.

"Thank you."

"Well now all we need to do is the matter of the bounty on the Beastmen heads as well as this one in particular."  He points to Khazrak's still oozing corpse.

I nod.

All calculated the total reward for killing Khazrak and his herd comes to 20,000gc an unimaginable amount of wealth.  Though he does admit the second 10,000 might have to come in parts.

I smile. "That's perfectly acceptable m'lord. I expect that with the beastman threat all but broken, trade should pick up quite nicely and more than fill the gap."

Depends, Hochwinter is still a whiles away, though getting to Karak Azgal might take a while...a LONG WHILE...

With my overland speed?

Anyways, I'll start with the Chosen of Sigmar.

I'll speak to the Ur-Ulric about forming a team to train the Chosen of Sigmar.

My agenda is to head to Karaz-a-Karak and from there Karak Azgal... then back.

With my speed could I make it?

Nice.

Very nice! Wink

And I rise to the occasion.

Many a time.

Besides having 'fun' I do try to get to learn a little more about her.

Alright. You discover she's rather devout though she's a bit weak on the oppose necromancers aspect because she's terrified of the undead, for obvious reasons.

She is very respectful and honest with priests as she feels lying to them would anger the gods (though she does mention that doesn't apply to priests of Raneld. They should know better).

She does NOT trust wizards. She doesn't see them as all necromancers, whom she HATES, but feels they tend to bugger around with shit they don't understand.

She loves life (not as ironic as you'd think, considering who she worships) and lives everything to the max. Along those lines she's very much a lively creature who loves the many pleasures of life.

She's also EXTREMELY superstitious.

She's also absolutely fastidious when it comes to keeping clean.

She LOVES to cook and is VERY good at it...

Basically you learn a lot.

She reaches into her bag and hands you a book.

It's a common, printed version of "My Travels with Gotrek Volume 1"

What do you think I ask Cosmina to come with me and I ask the man what he has to sell if there is something that Cosmina seems to want then I'll buy it so long as the price isn't something obscene.

She starts to look around like an anxious little girl lest loose on a Easter basket. You might want to set a budget...

I'll also take a look myself for something that sparks my interest.

What are you looking for?

Oh joy. Dinner came early huh.

I draw my Kunai with Chain and gauge the distance to time my strikes accordingly, but more importantly to land the chain to restrain it.

Given its size, taking its legs from out under it is a possibility. On the other hand using it to strike its eyes to blind it would also be of use. On the third hand, figuratively speaking, its neck would be another possibility, but given its size and eagerness... not really a valid choice. Thus depending on the timing, the more ideal method would be taken.

Finishing it off with the other half of the weapon without giving it time to react to the first strike is ideal of course and is my intention. But I shouldn't neglect my surroundings while dispatching it.

Or just use the chain end to kill it immediately while just sidestepping out of the way in the event its momentum carries it a bit too close otherwise. On second thought, that's probably for the best as to avoid having to deal with possible late arriving hostiles.

Gear: The usual

Loot: all of 4 silver's worth to his name

A mouse like serving girl is the first person you manage to come across and she nearly screams and faints when she see you. But once she recovers she does eventually point you in the right direction.

I make sure to thank her, remaining perfectly civil before I head off.

You manage to luck out with the supplies though you only get a small corner of the kitchen to work in. The rest of the staff only allow you that much because you're a gigantic bare chested Norscan.

Once you've had that meal what do you do next?

Make a bit extra for the staff, then clean up after myself first. Leaving a messy kitchen, or at least part of it, is a habit one shouldn't get into.

After that, I wash up and consider what to do for a moment before finding someone to ask whether the castle has a library. Been on the road for a long while and I'm feeling the need to indulge in some light reading after my meal. And, you know, check if I'm actually literate and not just able to speak the local language.

Well when the lady arrives at one of the warehouses she claims her family owns, she's denied by the manager of him knowing her, even though she tells him repeatedly who she is and reminds him that she hired him on herself.  Utterly baffled and furious she tries a different place, same results.  She goes to every warehouse and business that her family owns in the city and all of them vehemently deny that she is the DEAD heir to the von Gunnard enterprises.  She looks ready to break down weeping at this point.

They stare at the huge brutal looking man gently cooking and cleaning and when you offer food they numbly take it and stuff it into their mouths without complaint.

They stare again when you ask about books but one of them points you the way.

You find a relatively large though cozy feeling library in one of the towers.  Most of the books you find are either poetry, verses of love songs, or romantic stories of one type or another though other books ARE interspersed through the place.  Anything you’re looking for in particular?  And yes you can read Bretonnian.

Once the feasting is over what is next on your agenda and what do you do with the remains of the mammoth?
Well for the mammoth remains, I have those given to the crafters to do with as the will. As I'm sure they will have better ideas for what to do with it then I. Then after seeing that handled, I'll head over see Kenna and take her aside to talk in private at my hall.

"So Kenna my maiden, what do you think of all that has happen with this new news and does this chance things between us? As I need to know, do you think you could be or become a worthy queen to our people?"

As for the rest of the time I have left, I'll make sure to see Urist an see how things are doing since I've left and ask how much more time is needed to finish the project. Set things up for another trip to see the dwarfs in a weeks, though this time it will be set up to be a political meeting. See what info I can get on the island of Albion, it's people and if we have any know routes to land safely on it. Have some Kingly clothing make for me, though make sure that they are designed with ease of movement and battle in mind. Have the old cultist temple torn down, burned and cleansed, before building a temple to Ulric in it's place. An visit my friends and see how they are taking the news and see if things changed between us because of it. Though I'll use the rest of my free time teaching our smiths how to make, use and build forges that can use and withstand the new heats Coke and to the masons and other builders I'll show them how to make, use and reinforce cement. As these new technologies will be dearly need to help my new people grow stronger.

Then once things are in order for the trip back to the dwarfs, I'll head out with my men and Jarl Ingvar to see them.

Loot: all of 4 silver's worth to his name

They stare at the huge brutal looking man gently cooking and cleaning and when you offer food they numbly take it and stuff it into their mouths without complaint.

They stare again when you ask about books but one of them points you the way.

Heh. There's a bit of dissonance there, I imagine.

I'll need to find some way to be less intimidating in the future if I ever want to get feedback on my cooking though. Pity.

You find a relatively large though cozy feeling library in one of the towers. Most of the books you find are either poetry, verses of love songs, or romantic stories of one type or another though other books ARE interspersed through the place. Anything you’re looking for in particular? And yes you can read Bretonnian.

Interesting. I check a few books - it's very likely that languages used are all over the place, especially if the books aren't printed - and try to read whatever language I stumble upon. I'm trying to ascertain whether it's just Breton I can speak and read, or whether this is a general gift of tongues I have going, either due to ROB or the fact that Skarin has divine ancestry and that could come with a gift of tongues as part of the parcel.

And Reikspiel doesn't necessarily count as it's apparently very similar to modern German, which I spoke before I was huge and Norse.

Once I'm done with that I'll grab the book that caught my interest the most during that impromptu examination. Probably not a book of love songs, poetry, or a romantic story though, unless they're really good.

Nice, very nice. A hefty sum.

*facepalm* Well, well well. Sounds rather like she was *meant* to disappear. This is becoming more and more complicated... Well, first thing. I'll take one of the managers, most likely the one that she claims she hired herself, to the side and... interrogate them. I look like a damned barbarous Norscan that can break a normal man like a twig, so time to use that intimidation. Given my enhanced hearing, I'm guessing that I'll be able to hear at least faintly when a person's heart is beating rather rapidly. As well as take notice of other physical signs that he or she is lying. I want to know if they are lying about her, and if so, why they are lying, who's telling them to lie. And all the important stuff. Oh, and who's the head of the enterprise now. Is it her husband still or someone else?

After exhausting that path of information, I guess there's nothing to it but to march up to whatever corner of the city her family lives in and demand answers.

If the Baron agrees, and the Count doesn't mind taking in Piet and the wolves, then I have no problem with it.

Heintz does allow it and the Count is more than accepting of Piet, when he sees how well the boy can ride he even offers to have him become a squire when he's old enough.  As for the wolves, well so long as you can keep them under control.

He's impressed.

Sounds good to me. Two or three more as guards might be useful as well. Simply so we can keep up a full rotation at night.

Alright

Thumbs up!

I looked at the records :p

It's a bit into the mountains, towards the southern half of the Province.

Righto. Would you like to ask about any of her other books?

Any topics or do I break out the random generator?

Imperial History or books written about the Ulrican cult if I can find 'em.

Well for the mammoth remains, I have those given to the crafters to do with as the will. As I'm sure they will have better ideas for what to do with it then I. Then after seeing that handled, I'll head over see Kenna and take her aside to talk in private at my hall.

Alright, and she smiles when she sees you.

"So Kenna my maiden, what do you think of all that has happen with this new news and does this chance things between us? As I need to know, do you think you could be or become a worthy queen to our people?"

She's more than a little stunned at what happened at the meeting but she admits that she'll do the best she can to stick by your side and support you, though she admits that she's a little overwhelmed here.

Things are going well though he hopes that with your recent jump in status you won't kick him out and get a more experienced stoneworker to work on your hold, he expects maybe another two weeks if you help.

The message is sent and is returned about a week later congratulating you on your rise and that they would be willing to meet you in the trade tunnel roads between their and your holds.

Clothing is immediately commissioned though it might take a while and the dead mammoth hide and bits of bone are used as part of the cloak for it.

Albion is a eternally foggy and rainlashed island with dozens of (celtic-like) tribes that the Bjornlings AND the Graelings have raided and fought with for ages they hate us.

The temple is reconsecrated to Olric with a grand ceremony that hundreds come to see.

While the smiths and builders are more than a little offput at the sudden nosing into their craft they do tentatively take to the stuff though the smiths take to the coke quicker than the builders and cement.

Then once things are in order for the trip back to the dwarfs, I'll head out with my men and Jarl Ingvar to see them.

Roughly a week later you meet with the dwarf leaders in a way point in the trade tunnel roads.  The thane and his entourage greet you and ask what will be the new treaty with the Bjornlings now there is a true king among them?

With the boar butchered you head on your way down the game trail.  As the light begins to dim you need to decide whether to camp for the night or just plow on through the woods.

Either way as the light almost vanishes, you hear screaming at the edge of your hearing.  Do you investigate or stay put?

I want to know if they are lying about her, and if so, why they are lying, who's telling them to lie. And all the important stuff. Oh, and who's the head of the enterprise now. Is it her husband still or someone else?

They were ordered to lie.  By the new head of the house, her cousin Adolphus von Gunndard, he'd said that the Miss was killed by pirates but also that there might be charlatans trying to claim they were the Miss.  If they were encountered they were supposed to deny her being the Miss and then report to Master Adolphus.

When the name Adolphus is mentioned that pretty face turns as dark as a warp storm out of the wastes of Chaos.  "Adolphus...."  She hisses with enough venom to kill and ogre.  Then she turns to you and says, "Would you mind working with me for a little while?  I have need of your services."

After exhausting that path of information, I guess there's nothing to it but to march up to whatever corner of the city her family lives in and demand answers.

She says that it might not be the best idea to just appear at the home, Adolphus will deny her and call the guards and then she'll NEVER be able to get home, claim what is hers and get revenge on her cousin.

So for now she'll need a place to stay for now...she looks to you and with humiliation on her face asks if you were willing to loan her the money needed until she can contact any remaining allies she might have in the city.

You make more than a few people stare as you zip down the road south from Middenheim to Reikland.  You want to stop in Altdorf?

Well not specifically a bounty but it still makes people stare when they pass that road later on and wonder who the hell did that.

You have a little more travel until you pass by Altdorf, roll a d100 to see if anything happens before you get there.

Ah never mind

I show my interest in the Sigmar book and I ask about why she has that one, I didn't think young women were particularly interested in that one.  I also wonder about what the other books she has are unless those are of a more...racy nature.

I raise my eyebrow and grin but I don't comment, I'm rather curious what she has in mind for a dress.

I'll take one of each though I'll ask Cosmina and the others on which copy I should get if there is more than one book on either of the two topics I'm interested in.

She's more than a little stunned at what happened at the meeting but she admits that she'll do the best she can to stick by your side and support you, though she admits that she's a little overwhelmed here.
Laughing a little as she admits to being overwhelmed by it all, I meet her eyes and say. "Kenna, there is nothing wrong with being overwhelmed by this all, as I promise you I never expected or by Olric wanted this myself. As I was happy just being me and fighting the good fight you know. An now, knowing that I will lead our people as one and be the one that decides how we will live from now on, frankly it scares me in a ways that the 4 could never do with all their might. But I also understand that once something like this is done, there can be no turning back. Only a path going forward, only a life that must be lived for the betterment of all our people and that to do otherwise with the trust and power that is given with my new rank would be unthinkable.

So I'll ask again, do you think you can live a life like that. Live a life as my equal in all things, live a life where you will be expect to lead all our people with me or in my stead while I'm away on a campaign, am to injured to do so myself or I am dead. Live a life where you will have to order warriors in the dozens of hundreds to die so that others may live and to live a life where you may one day have to kill kin/clans mate to safe guard our lands and people? If so, I will make you mine here and now, I will mark you as my own and you me and we will walk out of this hall as king and queen, man and wife in both heart and mind. But if you don't believe you can be that women now or in time, then I understand. But then, this is where we will need to part ways as lovers. As the women I make my queen will need to be someone I can leave our people too and not just someone I love.

So tell me Kenna can you be my Queen?" I ask with hope and dread mixed in equal measure, hoping for a yes, but dreading a no.

Things are going well though he hopes that with your recent jump in status you won't kick him out and get a more experienced stoneworker to work on your hold, he expects maybe another two weeks if you help.
"No worries there Urist my good dwarf, you have only done good honest work for me since I've hired you and you are a good dwarf my friend. Though I will say, I will be hiring more dwarfs in the future since the scales of the jobs I'll need done in the future will be larger then I ever excepted to happen any time soon. Though I doubt you will be too upset with more dwarfs joining us here."

The message is sent and is returned about a week later congratulating you on your rise and that they would be willing to meet you in the trade tunnel roads between their and your holds.
Good.

Clothing is immediately commissioned though it might take a while and the dead mammoth hide and bits of bone are used as part of the cloak for it.
Good, though I'll try to make sure that at least once set is done for my meeting with the dwarfs, as I'll need to look that part when I see them next.

Albion is a eternally foggy and rainlashed island with dozens of (celtic-like) tribes that the Bjornlings AND the Graelings have raided and fought with for ages they hate us.
Well that is not some promising news, though I track down Jarl Ingvar after I get it. As I'll need him to explain to me why our clan has been raiding Albion, as for as far I can find out about it. They don't really have anything that would make repeat raids worth the effort.

The temple is reconsecrated to Olric with a grand ceremony that hundreds come to see.
An wow, with the blighted temple taken care of and a proper one back to Olric up again, the air just seems so much cleaning then it did before. An I can see many of the others in our home filled with a new energy and spirit then before that just fills my soul with joy. An so once the temple is open for all again, I make it a point to give a prayer in thanks to Olric in his new temple.

While the smiths and builders are more than a little offput at the sudden nosing into their craft they do tentatively take to the stuff though the smiths take to the coke quicker than the builders and cement.
Seeing how the craftsmen seem to be taking my teachings to help them improve there crafts and how there resentment is dulling there actions with these new tools. I decide to try to cut this issue in the bud and call a meeting of all them together to share some words with them.

"Men, I know what I have been teaching you these last few days has made some of you questions my thoughts of what I think of your current skills or my respect to your crafts. But know now, that is not the issue here. What I am simply trying to do here is give you skilled men another tool for you to use your skill and minds to build with. To give you a greater freedom to create true marvels that like of which even the empire could look upon and find themselves wanting in their craft compared to ours. So trust me, what I do here will only help make you greater in you crafts."

Roughly a week later you meet with the dwarf leaders in a way point in the trade tunnel roads.  The thane and his entourage greet you and ask what will be the new treaty with the Bjornlings now there is a true king among them?
Smiling and walking over to the Thane hand offered in friendship. "Well to be honest my good thane. What I want to talk to you about is not just a treaty between the Bjornlings and your people, but all my people and yours. As in a few months time, my people will be more then just the Bjornlings but all clans of the south and then who knows. As only one united clan alone will not be able to resist the coming storm that will be coming for us all, as only a united norsca as a whole will have a chance of doing so. So can this work for you good thane? An if so what terms do you wish for such a new alliance?"

You speak Bretoni, and Reikspiel since you already knew German, (I'll let you pass on that.) There ARE a few books written in what looks like some sort of pseudo-Latin you can't make heads or tails of though they are rare.

Interesting. Hmm ...

... well, I won't know until I try, but since Kislevarin is apparently a mix of Polish and Russian I might be able to intuit some of it. Note, probably just some, as of those two I only speak Polish. And hopefully Skarin can help with whatever it is the Norscans use. So hopefully, I have at least some of my bases covered here.

... wait ...

Pseudo Latin.

That sounds eerily familia ... oh ... um ... I look for skulls and double-headed eagles in those texts, because that sounds _suspiciously_ like High Gothic.

Well there IS a large text about the early Bretoni Tribes and the story of Gilles le Breton and his companions, and judging from how well preserved it looks it's barely been touched.

Huh. Nice. I always was interested in the various existing interpretations of Arthurian myth, at least as a hobby, so after I've made sure to replace all the other books so they're where I found them I'll take this one, find a chair that doesn't feel like it'll break with me kicking back in it, and crack the book open. At the very least, it'll while away the time.

Well okay then. Should probably tell Piet the news. And make sure to keep training the wolves.

Now that I'm in a bigger city, I think I'll try to find out if there is a Gun Quarter in the city. If so, I think I'll take a walk over in that direction. Might as well see if I can't find out a few things.

For what? The smell?

And where's Huss?

Well with a roll of 25....

You manage to run into someone that had been there when Huss went after that beastman band alone in one of the villages along the road to Altdorf.  He says that Huss went somewhere South, Wissenland towards Nuln maybe he thinks but definitely South.

Several days later you reach a road sign reading that Lachenbad is in one direction while you'll need to keep on heading South to find Huss.  What do you choose?

A couple, yes... there's one about a Bretonnian damsel and a brave Tillian pirate prince...

I raise an eyebrow and I mutter out loud, "Note to self look for a Tillean outfit..."

She'll let you know when she's done.

We will

Books are EXPENSIVE and you pretty much clear out his supply.

By how much?

And in other news you're now traveling by river. Luxury barge... private room Wink

Fun times, as a side note, does she have anything else she want to ask about me?

"Yes...yes..I think I can."

"Hmmm when you put it that way....so long as I get to finish my job before anyone else."

Good, though I'll try to make sure that at least once set is done for my meeting with the dwarfs, as I'll need to look that part when I see them next.

An outfit and cloak fit for a king is ready just when you need to move out.

Well that is not some promising news, though I track down Jarl Ingvar after I get it. As I'll need him to explain to me why our clan has been raiding Albion, as for as far I can find out about it. They don't really have anything that would make repeat raids worth the effort.

Well the Bjornling tribes raid mostly because it's so damn close more than anything else.  Though Ingvar admits he hasn't hit that place for decades.

When you're in the temple, you swear you feel something incredibly powerful surround you but you can't tell what...but before you leave you swear you hear a 'good job boyo' before the feeling vanishes.

It seems to get through their skulls and in the following days more of them start working with the stuff.

He's more than a little astounded at what you intend to try and do but then he remembers what it is you did against that Graeling raid and he grins saying that if there is any man that could do it, it just might be you.

That sounds eerily familia ... oh ... um ... I look for skulls and double-headed eagles in those texts, because that sounds _suspiciously_ like High Gothic.

...actually it's Tillean....

Huh.

There is silence for a long while as you read the book in a large highbacked chair.  Then there is a rustle behind you and a tenor voice calls out, "Well the curiosities just continue.  My Castellian is about to kill himself from apoplexy, his son once again deflowered the one woman he shouldn't, a Norscan comes with the lad and cooks for himself and my staff in my castle, and now I find him reading an early history of the Bretonni and the theories about the backgrounds of Gilles and his Companions."  You look up to see a tall handsome individual with dark hair.  "So stranger...who might you be?"

He's ecstatic about the opportunity.

Well there is a gunshop you think might have what you need.  They have just about every gun under the sun even a hochland longrifle for 5 gc or so they claim is one.

"Yes...yes..I think I can."
Well then the time for words is done and now is the time of action and fun. An by Thor I hit like it like the hammer of the gods until the coming morning.

Which on that morning, I'll leave the hall with my now wife and queen and spread the good news to the rest of the people. An then get started with planing a wedding with Kenna for the new temple of Olric that is being built.

"Hmmm when you put it that way....so long as I get to finish my job before anyone else."
"Well there is no worries there my friend, as I won't even be able to see them again until your work here is done. So your proving to leave the rank of journeymen is in now danger.

Though I do look forward to the wonders I be able to have you and your kin be able to build later."

An outfit and cloak fit for a king is ready just when you need to move out.
Good, though I also request the get started on clothing for there new queen too.

Well the Bjornling tribes raid mostly because it's so damn close more than anything else. Though Ingvar admits he hasn't hit that place for decades.
"Well bloody hell, this could be a issue later then. But hopefully I can still work though this, as there are items of great worth there and casters of skill that would be of great use for the coming storm."

When you're in the temple, you swear you feel something incredibly powerful surround you but you can't tell what...but before you leave you swear you hear a 'good job boyo' before the feeling vanishes.
Well now I know I have the eyes of at least one god on me, though I wonder if that will be a good thing to have in the long run.

It seems to get through their skulls and in the following days more of them start working with the stuff.
Good, as the faster they take to these ideas, the better we will all be in the long run.

He's more than a little astounded at what you intend to try and do but then he remembers what it is you did against that Graeling raid and he grins saying that if there is any man that could do it, it just might be you.
"Well thanks for that vote of confidence there thane." I say with a smile, before picking up again.

"Though lets get down to business then, so may I suggest that with our new alliance that we agree to three things. First open up free trade between our people once again, second to enter into a mutual defense pact against the forces of chaos or other fouls threats that would gut a men or dwarf just for living and lastly to agree to set up a mutual training program where both our people can train together to learn how to fight with each as a well oiled machine and to deepen bonds of friendship an brotherhood. So does that sound agreeable to you thane or do you have other ideas or issues you would like to bring up for this coming alliance?"
